GROOVY NOODLES

THE ELM TREASON NEWSLETTER NUMBER 77

OCTOBER 7, 2022

ELM TREASON TIDBITS

– Andy is back in Texas with his extended family. He’ll be down there for a few weeks. However, mixing for the new album “WITHOUT A TRIBE” will continue unabated… so worry not!

– The boys are creating new content for a brand new band website. Currently, all online band business (like this newsletter) are hosted at elmtreasonmusic.com … but the domain elmtreason.com will soon be a reality! And it will be super groovy (like a noodle).

– By request… “PLAY LOUD, LISTEN LOUDER” hoodies and sweatshirts will be available soon.

Your Input: Not Following the Crowd

So… We’re not going NEGATIVE here. We’re just having a bit of fun.

You know those songs that EVERYONE ELSE seems to love, but you don’t?  We’re talking about those tracks that are part of the rock n roll fabric of our lives… but we just don’t (or can’t) dig them?

Maybe from overplay… Maybe we just straight up don’t like them…

Name a song (or two) that falls into this category for you.

Let’s call them… “Way Overrated Songs…”

We’ll start it… and we KNOW it’s sacrilege  to many to say this, but we’ll take the slings and arrows…

Andy: “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake … “Under Pressure” by Queen with David Bowie … “You Give Love a Bad Name” by Bon Jovi

Bobby: “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” by Meatloaf … “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N Roses … “Living on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi …

Hit that comments section! We REALLY would love to hear from you on this.

Have fun with it!

You Don’t Mess Around with Jim, I Honestly Love You

Shelley Briley

“Macarena,” “Total eclipse of the heart,” I’m sure there are quite a few more…

BOBBY

ooooh Macarena. in the 90s I briefly played in a cover band that did that one. I still get nightmares about it.
And Total eclipse….that’s a bit……much for me as well. Great picks!

Bill Boys

This is just my subjective opinion: Stairway to Heaven is a fantastic song. It’s wonderful. However: It doesn’t deserve to be called the greatest song of all time. It’s not even the greatest Led Zeppelin song of all time. Same with Bohemian Rhapsody. Still love it, But there are a lot of Queen songs more deserving. Imagine by John Lennon may be the most overrated song of all time. Lyrics, meh. music, uninteresting. I wouldn’t have an issue with it but people seem to want to bring it to this mystical level and I don’t think it deserves it in any way. There is so much good stuff in the post Beatles songbook for Lennon, for that to be his standout has always been bizarre to me.

David

Totally agree, if I never hear stairway to heaven again I’ll die happy probably close to their worst song in my opinion

BOBBY

totally agree!

Total Eclipse of the Heart

Bill Boys

Really enjoyed Bobby’s three guitar players who influence him and encourage everyone to scrolling all the way down to the bottom of the Groovy Noodles. It’s like the final noodle.

BOBBY

thanks so much!

Jake Lucas

What’s up guys! Happy Friday! To answer your question I think Boehemian rhapsody is a bit overrated. It seems it wasn’t a big hit until Wayne’s world used it.

Victoria

Margaritaville. Agh!

BOBBY

I’m right there with ya, Victoria. I have an ex-girlfriend that used to play that in the car all the time , so whenever I hear it on the radio , it’s a double UGH for me!

Alan Peter Seger

The medley on Abbey Road.

David

Well I will start by saying anything Jon bon Jovi ever did except for that Young guns song, and also anything Billy idol ever did that guy sucks so bad I cannot believe people actually listen to it. I can’t stand Lennon and McCartney’s come together and people keep doing covers of it and they all suck equally as bad LOL I’m sure there’s more but those three hit me like a ton of lead every time

BOBBY

Never was into Bonjovi or Billy Idol myself, David. I guess — as my grandfather used to say–to each his own.

David

I knew there was more, Jimmy Buffett sucks Bobby McFerrin sucks I don’t much care for reggae unless it’s rocked up like sublime that one Bob Marley song, redemption is it pretty song I wouldn’t call it reggae

Brian Etie'

“Ackey Braky Heart” ….. Cute but, ONE LISTEN WAS ENOUGH

BOBBY

i don’t know what’s more annoying the song, or the line dance.

Michael Patterson

Sweet Home Alabama, that opening lick; Smoke on the Water, first song I learned as a drummer;Stairway to Heaven, my first guitar was a twelve string…

Katie

I agree with most everything that’s already been written. I would just add The Long and Winding Road – puts me to sleep; and anything by Jethro Tull – love the instrumentation, but there’s something about Ian Anderson’s voice that grates on my brain. Also, I’m haven’t gotten the last two Groovy Noodles until Tuesday.

Katie

OMG! Can’t classic rock radio stations play any Billy Joel song besides “Only the Good Die Young”?

Lisa

Great choice guys. Mine are:

I Love Rock and Roll – Joan Jett, (it was Joan Jett, right? I dislike it so much I even try to block out who plays it)

Still Rock and Roll to Me – Billy Joel

Her Strut – Bob Seger. It’s not the song so much but the intro/guitar lead. ……….. 😑…🙄. From the first time I heard it I wanted to say, ‘Bob, look man, go home. Take a break. Spend some time with your family. Just…go home.

Groovy Noodles Extra: From the Pen of Bobby Steel

People always ask the boys in the band who their biggest influences were.

To answer such a question would require more bandwidth than is currently available to humanity.

However, this week, Bobby Steel talks about the three guitarists that most influenced him in his formative musical years.
