– It’s official! Andy welcomed a new bass guitar into the Elm Treason arsenal! A Fender Precision Bass! White with black trim.
– Time has come at a premium for the boys in the band, but work on the new “WITHOUT A TRIBE” continues… Here’s a sneak preview of some the album’s song titles: “Dealer of Light,” “Typical Way,” “Bring it Out,” “These Words,” “Going Yesterday” and “Lock and Load.” Obviously, this doesn’t give you as much as a hint as to what the music itself sounds like… but we thought you might dig that.
– The band is not consulting an Indian guru nor are we appearing on the cover of any national magazine. We just wanted to clear that up.

Celebrating his 59th birthday on Thursday was Primus singer/bassist Les Claypool
Mark Farner, lead singer/guitarist for Grand Funk Railroad, had birthday number 74 on Thursday
Singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne turned 38 on Tuesday
Bryan Ferry, lead singer for Roxy Music, had his 77th birthday on Monday
Bassist Brad Smith of Blind Melon turned 54 on Thursday
Composer Mike Post writer of many TV theme songs, including Law & Order, NYPD Blue, The Rockford Files, L.A. Law, Quantum Leap, Magnum, P.I., and Hill Street Blues turned 78 on Thursday.
Randy Bachman of The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive had his 79th birthday on Tuesday.
Stephan Jenkins, frontman for Third Eye Blind celebrated birthday number 56 on Tuesday
Turning 64 on Tuesday was pop singer/actor and former teen idol Shaun Cassidy

I (Andy) had just finished saying to Michael that I was utterly surprised at the lack of love for Linda Ronstadt in this thread. (maybe, that’s too harsh. I did ask for only three voices per person)… but there you are, bringing her into the mix.
Love the relative obscurity (compared to the other two) of Joyce Kennedy. Killer.

I thought MM was fascinating. How she whisper-sings then belts it out. She’s got a lotta control.
That is a hard one to pick because I have so many that I love and listen too every day from so many genres’ Bluegrass Abigail Washburn, Sierra Hull, Molly Tuttle. Blues Janiva Magness, Maria Muldaur, knocks your socks off voices Ann Wilson, Grace Potter, Imelda May. Most beautiful voices Katie Noonon, Mia Washinton and Emmylou Harris best singer songwriters Amy Speace, Eliza Gilkyson and the amazing Gretchen Peters and I just can’t leave them out Allison Russell Eddi Reader Eilen Jewell, Lucinda Williams sorry I couldn’t just pick three and I could go on, but I’ve given me self a slap up the back of the head and said stop it..
You gotta go with what you feel. Whatever the vibe, no matter how many… this is a serious muster of outstanding talent… and there will ALWAYS be more. ALWAYS.
As I said in another part of this thread, for me, it’s really about the mood and moment. Sometimes, Aretha is perfect… other times Billie needs my attention….Just yesterday, Etta hit the spot for about two hours.
That’s the beauty of music. there’s so much… Each nano-second is perfectly covered by some vibe.

Just too many to pick only three, personally I would start with Bonnie Raitt, for sure the Wilson girl from heart, I like Fiona Apple’s voice a lot Joan Osborne Lita Ford I’m telling you man too many to name a lot of beautiful female voices in the country genre as well, I love listening to a woman saying a woman that has such a range of voice with natural harmonics and know how to use them wow good question guys
You’re right, David. There’s always too many to choose. But it’s a fun exercise.
The thing is… for me anyway … I don’t really have “favorites” of most things. It’s more a matter of what I’m in the mood for today. 🙂

Bill Boys, I had the honor of touring with Mother’s Finest in the late 70’s and Joyce Kennedy was and still is one of the strongest lead vocalist ever. Also love Ann Wilson and Linda Ronstadt.
