THE ELM TREASON NEWSLETTER NUMBER 72

SEPTEMBER 2, 2022

ELM TREASON TIDBITS

– The band thanks all of you who participated in our “PLAY LOUD, LISTEN LOUDER” T-Shirt Launch. So many of you took advantage of the storewide 20% OFF discounts. We are GRATEFUL beyond words. We hope you all love your new goodies!

– Those who purchased “PLAY LOUD, LISTEN LOUDER” T-shirts will be getting their free buttons and stickers under separate cover if they didn’t already receive them with their shirt. (We didn’t forget!)

– Session work on the band’s next studio album “WITHOUT A TRIBE” continues, but the release date looks like it may delayed until around Christmas time now. Disappointing, we know. We apologize. Circumstances that cannot be helped have unfortunately reared their ugly heads. We promise we are working to get things back on track as much as is humanly possible. We will keep you updated.

A VERY VERY VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Elm Treason’s own Andy Roman who adds another ring around his trunk on Monday the 5th!

Loved the article. Love Bobby’s writing style and storytelling and sense of humor. Funny how it seems to mesh with Andy’s article writing approach. Also love Andy’s original version. I’ve had question and I finally get to ask it. Something that fascinates me and sounds so cool. You have that instrumental chord progression as an intro and then, right before Andy sings, you surprise me with a totally different chord that , to me, changes the direction you started. I love it. Is it called something musically? Why do I love that so much? Wish I could explain that better. Hope that makes sense.

BOBBY

would that be the V chord? The dominant ? V-IV-I? Dominant-subdominant-tonic?
Not sure of the section you’re talking about. that’s my guess…. I-V-IV-I progression.
Hope that makes sense.

Bill Boys

Not sure Bobby. There are two chords two seconds or so before the opening vocal

BOBBY

yes E, B then A I believe.

Bill Boys

Van Halen: Panama
I know you used it already but I gotta say Commander Cody: Hot Rod Lincoln
And
Tom Petty: Running Down a dream which is really just the experience of riding down the road and not, specifically a car so I’ll add one more about a specific car and that would be Rush: Red Barchetta

BOBBY

Chasing Cars- Snow Patrol
Low Rider-WAR
Highway Star-Deep Purple
and here’s one from my childhood: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
