– We’re happy to say that the UPTOWN Q Facebook group now has 160 members!
– NEW TOYS! Bobby Steel landed a brand new acoustic guitar for his arsenal, and he is absolutely LOVING IT! It is a Breedlove Pursuit Exotic S CE. It is all Koa wood, in Edge Burst coloring and plays like a dream. Andy may be close to pulling the trigger a new ax as well in the very near future. We’ll keep you updated.

Poison drummer Rikki Rocket was 61 on Monday.
Guitarist/Vocalist Rick Derringer (of the Edgar Winter Group and The McCoys), turned 75 last Friday.
Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear celebrated birthday number 63 last Friday.
Jon Farriss, drummer for INXS, had his 61st birthday on Wednesday.
Singer/musician Joe Jackson was 68 on Thursday.
Eric Carmen of The Raspberries (and a solo artist, too) turned 73 on Thursday.
Bruce Dickinson, lead vocalist for Iron Maiden, had his 64th birthday last Sunday.
Arion Salazar, bass guitarist for Third Eye Blind turned 50 on Tuesday.

Rick James dies from a culmination of health problems – including heart issues, diabetes and stroke – at age 56.

Rush drummer Neil Peart loses his 19-year-old daughter Selena to a car accident. A year later, Selena’s mother Jackie (Peart’s common-law wife) dies of cancer, leading Peart to take a long sabbatical from the band where he rides his motorcycle across North America.
30 YEARS AGO THIS PAST WEEK
Opening for Guns N’ Roses at a show in Montreal, James Hetfield of Metallica is injured by the pyrotechnics, which burn the entire left side of his body. Metallica can’t continue, and Guns N’ Roses cut their set short after just 15 minutes when Axl Rose leaves the stage, upset over monitor problems. A near riot ensues at Olympic Stadium as fans are not pleased.

The animated sci-fi film Heavy Metal is released. Although it shares its name with the hard-rock genre, the film isn’t intended to have anything to do with music, but instead is an anthology of various stories from the comic magazine Heavy Metal. Almost as an afterthought, an all-star soundtrack is added, featuring songs by Sammy Hagar, Devo, Blue Öyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Journey, and Black Sabbath, to name a few.

Elton John begins a record-breaking 10-night run of concerts at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
