ELM TREASON ALBUM COVER CONTEST

So, we’ve mentioned this a couple of times… but now, we’ve got FULL DETAILS on what this is all about…

We are working on our fifth studio album right now. Usually, we don’t come up with an album title or artwork until after all the jams are in the can… but this one is unfolding a tad differently.

There seems to be a general theme in much of the content.

The album title is one we’ve decided on fairly early in the process.. The record will be called “GOING YESTERDAY.” It is also the name of one of the songs in the collection.

The idea is… it is easy to see how much things have changed in such a short period of time for so many of us. And it’s readily observable how easily too many of us just let these things happen, only to complain about it later. There seems to be a lack of thoughtfulness… A lack of self inventory… A lack of thinking. We just seem to react. We don’t question things. We just lap up them dollops (to quote an older Treason tune).

That goes for just about all of us on any number of subjects. The boys of Elm Treason certainly are not immune.

To be clear… this album isn’t about taking a specific position on anything.

We don’t do political grandstanding. That’s not the point here.

Rather, this is more an observation on the human condition and how we seem to be far more ill-equipped to deal with today’s craziness than ever before. We’ve become tribal for tribalism’s sake, rather than truth seekers.

Hence, the idea of “Going Yesterday.”

We understand COMPLETELY that everything certainly was not great in the “olden days.” Obviously not. Not everything was “better” once upon a time. It would be ludicrous to suggest that.

Yet every once in a while, as the world continues to come at us at breakneck speed IN SPITE OF US, it would be nice – even if just for a few moments – to revisit a time when the current set of madness wasn’t thwacking us relentlessly.

Pete Townshend sang about GOIN’ MOBILE. People say they’re “GOIN’ FISHING” – both literally and figuratively. Some people go postal. Others go away. Others, still, go on vacation.

We’re “Going Yesterday.”

Or at least we’re looking to tap into a time when we talked a better game…. when we seemed more assured… more real. (The operative word is “seemed.” Maybe we weren’t all that real “yesterday.” Maybe we simply didn’t have the depth of struggles we do today and were never properly tested).

So, with all that said… We want you guys to be a part of this new album. We want to have you design the album cover for this record and be forever enshrined on an Elm Treason album.

So, effective now, we will begin taking submissions for this album cover.

We will not coach, influence, suggest, hint or push you in any specific direction. The entirety of the creativity will come from you. The ONLY THING we will add or change is the Elm Treason font/logo.

We will take submissions from now until Friday, July 1st, so please take your time.

All artwork must be high resolution 300dpi jpg files. The artwork will be used not only on CD inserts but on full 12″ vinyl jacket covers.

If you win, you will get free copies of the CD and Vinyl issues… plus any and all stickers, t-shirts and buttons we create for this album’s release that feature your work.

We’ll also thrown in a $50.00 VISA gift card.

If you don’t win, worry not….

The best 9 runner ups will be forever enshrined in the CD booklet as part of the liner notes as well as an insert that will accompany the vinyl release.

We will announce the winner in the Friday July 8th edition of this newsletter as well as in our Facebook Group, the Uptown Q. This contest will not be made available to the general Facebook page – just newsletter people and members of the Uptown Q Group.

Submit your work via email to: andy@elmtreason.com

There you go.

If you have any questions, email us at that same address. Good luck!

More Memes About Music.

We get these in our news feeds all the time. They seem to sum up how so many of us feel about music and the power it has to interact with us at the deepest levels.

Here are some of our favorites over the course the last several weeks.

The Memes that got us in trouble

As much as we go out of our way to be as benign and harmless as possible on our main Facebook page, we’ve gotten our share of warnings and suspensions. The jackboots of the Zuckerbook Army (i.e., the artificial intelligence bots) are ever-vigilant, if not fatally overbearing and regularly wrong.

Here are two examples of things we shared on Facebook that got us banned from our own pages. We were deemed to be “Inciting violence” and violating community standards with these.

Thank goodness they were there to protect the innocent.

Look at them at your own risk. (We will not be liable for any acts of depravity you may commit or be associated with as a result of consumption).

We suppose the microwaving of famous people – or the discussion of the hypothetical microwaving of celebrities – is enough to incite everyday, sane-minded folk to acts of unspeakable violence. Kudos, Facebook!

Back in February, when we commemorated Johnny Cash’s birthday, we quoted a line from his classic song “Folsom prison Blues,” we were shut out of our own Facebook page.

Apparently the line:  “When I Was Just A Baby, My Mama Told Me, “Son, Always Be A Good Boy; Don’t Ever Play With Guns.” … But I Shot A Man In Reno Just To Watch Him Die… When I Hear That Whistle Blowin’ I Hang My Head And Cry” was enough to trigger the Facebook jackboots in action, sheltering the unsuspecting innocent from our social media poison.

Think of the lives Facebook saved.
