GROOVY NOODLES
THE ELM TREASON NEWSLETTER NO. 21
SEPTEMBER 10, 2021
We decided to do it anyway
Originally, we were going to skip this week’s newsletter due to an ungodly schedule of “have to” and “need to.”
But then we said, “What the hell….” (using more colorful language). So, we use this week’s issue, scant as it may be, to express our gratitute.
Easy Participation
We thought we’d get down to basics. We didn’t have a ton of time to think about an “input” question, so we’re going with an easy (yet no less relevant) “participation” ask. We’d love to hear from you on this.
Andy’s number one band is The Beatles. Bobby’s is Rush.
What’s yours?
Here’s a Fun One
Coming up with a band name can be an ordeal (if not downright aggravating).
Here’s an exercise… Take your favorite color and then the name of the street you grew up on (minus the “street” “avenue” “place” etc designations), and viola!
Green Maple
Blue Ocean
Black Tenth
What did you come up with?
Another New York Memory
Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the 9-11 attacks, here’s a shot of Andy with his daughters, way back in the day, with New York’s Twin Towers in the background.
Remembering the Murdered
It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. We remember all the innocent lives lost on that very dark and painful day.

REMEMBER WHEN
Looks like Gibson has a new guitar – the “Les Paul” model. That’s the dude married to Mary Ford, ain’t it?
ONE MORE FUNNY
We cannot take any moe puns.

Beatles. First album I ever listened to was The White Album.
To this day, the literal diversity in styles and sounds on The White Album mesmerizes me (Andy). It’s something Bobby and I (in our own way) have tried to emulate.
Pink Floyd has been my favorite band since the very early ’70’s, when I found out about FM radio.
When FM radio became a part of our lives, EVERYTHING changed. The world OPENED UP. Rock on, Mike!
Yellow Tamar!
My favorite band is The Beatles.
I love the kitty in the guitar!
For me (Andy) it’d be Red Brighton. LOL!
No catalog satisfies me like the Beatles’ – from Please Please me to Abbey Road, and all stops in between. 🙂
Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show has been my favorite band since I was a little girl.
Wow! OUTSTANDING, Jody! What was the song that got you first?? LOVE your choice.
Mason Purple… Or purple mason…hmmmmmm. And y’all know my favorite band. None other than the hammer of the God’s, Led Zeppelin…
I (Andy) really DIG PURPLE MASON!
I am a HUGE fan of the Zeppelin catalog, from Good Times Bad Times through the end of CODA. Barely a bump along the way.
RUSH all the way
GREAT band. An INCTREDIBLE catalog. For Bobby, there is none better.
Thanks, John!
Green Kingwood
Sounds like a PROG ROCK band, Carolyn. 🙂
Hmmm easy? Well I hate to play favourites lol and I could pick one from every era and every genre but… the Rolling Stones and David Bowie, I figure I can get away with that since he is not really a band???? and of course my parents kept splitting up and getting back together when I was younger so we lived in many places! So going to pick three that have the most music memories: Green Sherman, Orange Prince Paul, Red Prince Philip????❇️
King Crimson, something for everyone, folk, rock, jazz…
Agreed, Michael! And not only is their catalog so wonderfully diverse and tasty, but their band name is one of the best ever. GOOD CALL, brother.
My favorite band has always changed a bit. When I was a teenager I loved metal and punk rock(flaw was my favorite then) but I discovered frank turner in my mid twenties and that changed my musical tastes quite a bit. I even changed up my music I make. So nowadays it’s definitely frank. I ya. My band name is actually Face in the Hall, but it could have been…red Maha.
GREAT comment, Kris! I (Andy) LOVE that your favorite band changes… or evolves. It’s also a credit to you that the genres that you immersed yourself in also went through different stages. beautiful to hear, man.
Love Red Maha, by the way.
Face in the Hall rocks!
Black Strickland????
I’d have to go with beatles too followed by a list as long as your arm of other bands.
Thanks for dropping in with Groovy Noodle and we would understand if you couldnt do it this week.
Loving the jokes and content, rock on guys x
Black Strickland sounds like a Late 90s alt-rock band with an edge. LOVE IT, Shirl!
Yes, the Beatles sit atop my (Andy’s) musical mountain, but the list that follows itself is far too long to get into here.
Thank YOU for continuing to dig into your weekly serving of Groovy Noodles.
My band name would be “Blue Santa Fe”
My FAVORITE band growing up was The Monkees. If they don’t cancel, I am going to see the final tour in November. This will be my 5th time seeing them since 1987. I have seen Micky Dolenz each time. Davy Jones twice, Peter Tork three times, and now finally Mike for the second time.
In my teens and 20’s Bread was a close second to The Monkees.
My FAVORITE band now is probably The Moody Blues.
I have SOOOOOOOO MANY FAVORITES though. I have been playing my “Rhyme and Treason” Album lately, and 3 different people asked me about it. They REALLY liked it. One was my new neighbor. I added him on Facebook just so I could invite him to your page.
BLUE SANTE FE sounds kind of folksy…but with a bit of bite and attitude. I (Andy) LIKE it.
The Monkees have always been a favorite of mine (Andy’s). Such GREAT songs. They had some of the very best writers in the business.
It is SO GOOD to hear that RHYME AND TREASON is connecting with you so much, Gloria. It’s a beautiful thing to hear. And the fact that you’re sharing the music is as great a gift as we could ever expect. Thank you for your glorious support.
Favorite? Toughhhh one. One the independent side, I saw Warren Zevon in person more than any other famous artist. So by those standards, there we are.
Thanks for doing the newsletter.
