The Charlie Daniels Band!
Ted Nugent
I (Andy) can still remember my first Ted Nugent T-shirt. Believe it or not, it was pinkish in color.
It may not sound rock ‘n’ roll, but it was a cool shirt.
My brother wore it as well. I think I still have pictures of it.
Jimi Hendrix ????
The great thing about Jimi Hendrix T-shirts are that they seem to transcend the culture.
I (Andy) understand the argument that people shouldn’t wear band shirts just for style or fashion. (that’s a whole different topic. Maybe we will cover it here one day). So the argument goes… People should wear T-shirts ONLY if they are fans of the music. I understand that argument.
But I do admit it’s kind of cool to see people wearing Jimi Hendrix T-shirts. Because who knows? Maybe someone will actually check out his music who wouldn’t have done so before.
Anyway, to this day, I have three different Jimi Hendrix T-shirts. Very cool!
One of my (Andy’s) wife’s all-time favorites. To this day. She adores Charlie Daniels.
Chicago
That is all kinds of cool.
To this day, I love the logo. Love that font!
Thanks, John.
As much as music still rules my world at 67, and has since I was 11, I had always put my money into hard copies of music(Vinyl, 8-tracks, cassettes and now CDs). Also I spent my money on equipment to play it, and on buying tickets to go see Live Music. I never bought my 1st band/musician t-shirt until about 2002 when I was at a Little Feat concert and bought a Feat Hoy Hoy shirt and the whole band signed it. I`ve probably got 50 concert shirts now ! Like most addictions………just gets bigger………Here I am with Paul Barrere in 2010, talking about losing Richie Hayward a few months earlier, wearing said shirt.
Absolutely fantastic comment!
That is exactly the kind of recollection we want – nay, crave – here each week in the groovy noodles newsletter.
Much like you, while I (Andy) did have a few band T-shirts when I was younger, I was tending more toward equipment and definitely music.
Money was quite tight for me… So I had to spend wisely.
I would say that most of the band T-shirts I have now were acquired way past my 20s and 30s.
So I feel you.
And what a great picture, too!
Rock onward. And thanks for commenting.
Wishbone Ash!
Outstanding, Ed.
Thank you, man.
Deep Purple
Delicious, Tom!
I (Andy) had an awesome deep purple T-shirt that just disappeared on me one day.
I haven’t been able to find that exact design since.
Still haunts me.
Black Sabbath
This day, if I (Andy) ever see someone in a black sabbath T-shirt, they get a nod, or a tip of the hat.
Thanks, David.
Maynard Ferguson…had a big “MF” on it.
Any T-shirt that has “MF” on it is one that I want in my collection!
Bob Dylan
Nice!
I (Andy) always thought that some of those black and white pictures of him circa 1965 would look great on a T-shirt.
Thanks, Carol!
Indigo Girls
T-shirts with the indigo girls on them will always make me think of working at Fox 55 in Fort Wayne Indiana.
There were two girls who worked there who adored them. And they always wore indigo girls T-shirts.
They must’ve had three or four different styles apiece.
It’s funny the things that trigger memories.
Thank you, Shelley!
WOWO(you mention Fort Wayne) was one of those radio stations that I would dial in after the sun went down and to early in the morning to learn about music i was not getting to hear in the small town I grew up in here in central Pa…….at the beginning of an addiction, I hope i never recover from. Also CKLW, WLS, WCFL and some others in the late, 60s and early 70s.
The Mavericks, Carly Simon .
That is very cool, Betty.
I have incredibly vivid recollections of my mom not only playing Carly Simon records a lot, but going to see Carly Simon live.
Not sure why that stands out so much. But it does!
And, of course, as a boy, I just loved the songs “you’re so vain“ and “anticipation.“
So good to hear from you. Thanks a ton!
I can’t recall ever owning a band t-shirt before Elm Treason. I had a Bobby Clarke/Flyers hockey jersey back in 1974. Does that count?
Wow!
Your Elm Treason shirt is the first band shirt you ever bought?
I (Andy) think I have a tear in my eye now. (in a manly sort of way, of course).
Honestly, you could knock me over with a feather. That’s kind of super cool.
Katie, you make our day.
AC/DC. They were part of a lot of firsts for me.
Cannot really think of a better band to be the instigator of a lot of “firsts.”
Just outstanding, Peggy.
Moody Blues! Saw them in concert in Casper, Wyoming with the whole Casper Symphony Orchestra for back up. It was amazing! My second t-shirt was Metallica, then Guns N’ Roses. Now I need to add an Elm Treason t-shirt!
Hi Georgia!
Andy here.
That is a sensational muster of T-shirts.
The Moody blues hold a special spot for me, because my mom so very much loved them. She was esspecially enamored of Justin Hayward. I know she saw the Moody blues at least three times when I was a kid.
Great memories.
And we would be honored to have you add an Elm Treason shirt to that spectacular lineup of rock and roll apparel.
Thank you so much.
David Bowie, Serious Moonlight tour
That is all kinds of cool.
I (Andy) was a young teen during that tour… And I had a chance to go. Sadly – stupidly – I didn’t.
I don’t have a lot of regrets in my life. I kind of regret that.
Awesome of you to comment here, Shelley.
Eagles
I (Andy) was hoping someone would say the Eagles. You got it in at the buzzer, brother.
????????????
Thank you man.
Thank you Andy I have more t-shirts than just the eagles but that was my very first one
Elm Treason
Rolling Stones 1975 Tour of the Americas
What A Great tour that was ! Saw them in Cleveland. Ronnie Wood was not a member yet, but was there playing. Got to see Billy Preston that day too with them. J. Geils Band was also on Fire !
The opening acts for Dallas were The Eagles, Montrose, and Trapeze.
For Those About to Rock
AC/DC
HaHaHa, I cannot remember
