Your Answer Is…
Hey there, Treasonites!
This week, we touch upon the obligatory CHRISTMAS MUSIC question… but with a bit more specificity… we hope.
Whether you’re a big fan of holiday music or not, we assume that there are songs that you can “tolerate” more than others.
So, let’s go polar here. Let’s go to opposite sides of the Yuletide spectrum.
For big fans and indifferent listeners alike, let’s pose approach it this way:
Someone comes up to you and asks you to “name a Christmas song you like (or love) and one you do not like (can’t stand)..”
Your answer is…

Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots, dies at age 48 when he suffers cardiac arrest on his tour bus in Bloomington, Minnesota, where his band The Wildabouts are scheduled to perform.
8 YEARS AGO THIS PAST WEEK
Crosby, Stills & Nash, which formed in 1968, finally implode at the White House National Christmas Tree Lighting concert when Stephen Stills throws a pick at David Crosby for talking over him. They get though a performance of “Silent Night,” but never play together again.
9 YEARS AGO THIS PAST WEEK
A fake MSNBC report claims that Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose has been found dead in his West Hollywood home. The band’s official Facebook page posts photos of the singer with the caption “Ha! They say I’m dead — again… Wait, what? WTF? It’s a hoax. Guys. Get a life at ParadiseCity.com.” The link references the band’s online fan community.
29 YEARS AGO THIS PAST WEEK
Adam Sandler performs “The Chanukah Song” on the Weekend Update segment of Saturday Night Live, enlightening us to the fact that Harrison Ford, Paul Newman and David Lee Roth (among many others) are, in fact, Jewish. Released as a single the following year, the song reaches #10 US and becomes a seasonal favorite.
30 YEARS AGO THIS PAST WEEK
Frank Zappa dies of terminal prostate cancer at age 52 in Los Angeles, California.

44 YEARS AGO THIS PAST WEEK
Before The Who concert at Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, 11 people are trampled to death and dozens are injured in a rush to enter the arena. Like many concerts of the day, there are no reserved seats, a practice known as “festival seating.” The resulting controversy (and lawsuits) force promoters to rethink the practice.
47 YEARS AGO THIS PAST WEEK
The Sex Pistols appear on the Today programme on London regional TV as a last-minute substitute for Queen. After being goaded by host Bill Grundy, they swear repeatedly, including the dreaded “F” word, shocking sensitive viewers.
47 YEARS AGO THIS PAST WEEK
Bob Marley is shot in the upper arm when intruders storm his house in Kingston, Jamaica, attempting to assassinate the singer. The attack was motivated by politics, as elections in Jamaica were days away and Marley was seen as supporting the ruling party. Marley made a full recovery and never had the bullet removed, as he was told that the operation could cause him to lose movement in his fingers.
52 YEARS AGO THIS PAST WEEK
During a Frank Zappa concert, the Montreux Casino in Switzerland catches fire when someone fires a flare gun, inspiring Deep Purple’s “Smoke On The Water.” Deep Purple are there to record their album Machine Head the following day, but end up using the Grand Hotel and including the song as a last-minute addition.
54 YEARS AGO THIS PAST WEEK
The Rolling Stones headline the Altamont concert at a speedway in California. It’s a free event with Jefferson Airplane and Santana also on the bill, but it turns violent when the Hells Angels motorcycle gang, who are hired as security, kill a crowd member. The concert is documented in The Stones movie Gimme Shelter.
59 YEARS AGO THIS PAST WEEK
The animated TV special Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer debuts on CBS, with Burl Ives as the voice of Sam the Snowman. The special is based on the 1949 song, which has become a perennial favorite.

I like this question.
My favorite Santa related Christmas song is “It Must Have Been Ol’ Santa Claus” by Harry Connick Junior.
My favorite Christian based Christmas song is Garrison Keillor’s version of “Still, Still, Still.”
I absolutely despise any version of “Little Drummer Boy.”
Honorable mention “Christmas Shoes” by Newsong. What a pandering piece of poop.
I understand they used the proceeds for some really good causes, so I feel a little guilty for listing this one but I just can’t help feeling that way.
No need to feel guilty. This is not an indictment on the charitable intentions of any song.
This is literally about the music itself.
And I (Andy) agree. I don’t care for that song at all.
I dig your positive choices.
What I dislike is “Wonderful Christmastime,” though it is sung by one of my favorites.
I like Rockin’ Around the Christmas tree.
Holly Jolly Christmas
Let it snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!
As far as traditional old:
Oh Holy night
I (Andy) think the DNA tells the tale.
I agree with every syllable.
I like Christmas card from a hooker in Minneapolis from Tom Waits. I can tolerate all the other ones.
Hi Martin! Andy here.
Just put on that Tom White song now.
Was not familiar with it, to be perfectly honest.
Thanks a ton!
Fav – “Party at the North Pole” by The Empty Pockets. Least fav – Whatever that “Bell Carol” song is… “Ukranian Bell Carol”? (Yeah… too many years listening to Christmas music in retail… one person I worked with learned to tell time from the looped music track.
Those who have a history in retail have a very different taste in their mouth when it comes to Christmas music. I (Andy) get it. Completely.
Traditionally, I love “Carol of the Bells”. My contemporary Xmas go-to is almost anything from Trans Siberian Orchestra. Christmas music sounds so much better when it’s rockin”! My ears will bleed hearing Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You”. It makes me choke back bile every time I accidentally come across it.
I (Andy) was wondering when someone would mention the Mariah Carey song.
I half expected it to be part of everyone’s answer.
🤣
Favorite secular Christmas song is “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. Probably the Pretenders version, but like by Sinatra and lots of others. Favorite sacred is “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”. No particular version. Least favorite is “Happy Holidays” by Andy Williams.
Love the new video!!!
Hi Katie! We love that you love the new video.
Very very cool. Thank you!
For the most part, I lean toward traditional and classic Christmas music, whether it be secular or religious.
It just sounds right to me that way.
Love Feliz Navidsd by Jose Feliciano. Hate/Can’t stand— Sleigh Ride, Winter Wonderland, Let it Snow, Jingle Bells, Frosty the Snowman, My Favorite Things. None of these have anything to do with Christmas, and they’ve just gotten old and overplayed, in my opinion. Don’t care if I ever hear them again. Humbug… 😊
Any and all humbug is welcome here.
And you are not the first person to share those exact sentiments.
Appreciate your answer very much, Mark.
i am not a fan of frosty the snowman.
i have however been trained since birth that it is not Christmas until Bing’s White Christmas plays (entirely and with total silence the first time – or it starts again)
this will be my first year without him but the tradition will live on with love
There are quite a few songs that are associated with Christmas that are not actually Christmas songs.
Winter Wonderland… Frosty the Snowman… Jingle bells… etc.
I (Andy) don’t mind them. I just don’t want oversaturation… And the only way to avoid that is to not have Christmas music radio stations playing all the time.
My favorite Christmas song is “The First Noel” my least liked is “All I Want for Christmas is You”
