That birthday photo of Madonna is a little off…🤣
😂😂😂😂
I (Andy) thought it looked more like how she looks today than — never mind. I won’t go there.
Corrected.
LOL.
Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”
Magnificent composition… and stellar vocals by Art.
Going to California – Zeppelin
Exquisite song. Through and through.
Thanks, Cliff!
I’m a big fan of the 2003, Blue October, History For Sale
One of my favorite songs of all time is Inner glow.
Like me, the lead singer is bi-polar.
Every line speaks so much encouragement to me.
The first line says a lot about my disorder.
Same with the Jekyll and Hyde mention.
Same with the word radio.
I’m never not emotional when I play it.
I’m like a storm cloud eager when to go wild
Calm again
I ask permission for the wrong to win
Drop the bomb and get your story out and get it on
In a haze, the beginning of your days
Going to fall down
Got to get back up, but at your own pace
Get to fill your cup and find the way
Out of your own maze
Yeah boy, what you said now!
And hide the rule book throw it in the waste
Look strong
Like you belong, cause you do belong
Whether right or wrong, you belong
Cause, I’m on your side, if you fail, at least you tried
To keep your aching, celebrating,
Wonder making heart alive, yeah.
And pride, don’t keep it all inside
Don’t keep your aching, celebrating,
Wonder making heart alone
Write your own song.
What ever happened to our inner glow?
What ever happened to the song, the soul, the me, I used to know?
What ever happened to my radio?
What ever happened to my song?
It is my song.
So here’s a preview. shove it under old/new
Or call it rock, or pop, or Bach, or fuck
Goddamn! Where did we go wrong?
Now there’s a category for every song
Yeah, we only want to sing when we want to
Yeah, we only want a dream we can flaunt to
Yeah, we only want to fly by the side, making love
To the rhythm, be a Jekyll and a Hyde
Yeah, we only want a field we can run through
Yeah, we only want a beat we can drum to
Yeah, we only want to fly by the side, making love
To the rhythm, be a Jekyll and a Hyde
So stride, if you fail, at least you tried
To keep your aching, celebrating
Wonder making heart alive
And pride, don’t keep it all inside
Don’t keep your aching, celebrating
Wonder making heart alone
Write your own song.
What ever happened to our inner glow?
What ever happened to the song, the soul, the me, I used to know?
What ever happened to my radio?
What ever happened to that song?
It is my song.
Gonna wake up strong
Ya we’re all gonna wake up strong
This is outstanding, Bill.
Bright Side of the Road – Van Morrison
Answering the question what song always makes me feel better, I’m gonna go with “Thunderstruck” with Chris Slade on drums.
“Thunderstruck”
That’s some serious feel-good power, Peggy!
Turn it the HELL UP!
“Happy” by Pharrell Williams
Absolutely! It’s in THE TITLE! A self-fulfilling jam!
“Who Will Stop the Rain”, CCR
Great chords. A great one to play. Definitely.
Thanks, Cindy!
I can’t not say this.
It’s a little personal.
Close to home is that song for me now.
I’m listening to it now and it reminds me
that it’s the song I have typed out the lyrics of.
I’m learning how to sing it, learning the lyrics by heart
and I can play the chords.
I’m in the process of trying to become who I really
am. I’m trying to clean up habits huge amounts of
negative self talk and be who I’m suppose to be
and not an egotistical jerk, a pushover, etc.
I’m making constant mistakes.
It’s not easy. I have a long way to go.
That’s why I’m trying to learn this song in voice and
guitar. Over the past ten years, I’ve probably played the guitar
10 times, for short periods. Practicing for the first time ever,
really It’s therapy. It’s healing and inspiring. Close to home is
the most healing song on the album to me, and that’s saying
something. The Blue October song I mentioned earlier is really,
currently 2nd and Close to Home is 1st.
It’s not that I think it’s objectively the best song on the album
It’s just the one that very closely speaks to me, lets me know
that other people go through the same stuff and you CAN get
there. You can LIVE your life instead of let it happen.
GET ME OUT OF HERE
THERE’S A WHISPER
DRAWING NEAR
A RHYTHM ALMOST CLEAR
YET VEILED FREE
THESE WORDS ARE SLIPPIN’ IN
NAKED, VAGUE AND DIM
MEANNNNNDERING WITHIN
AS IF TO TEASE
GET ME DOWN FROM HERE…
I’M COLD BUT IT’S NOT FEAR
THE VOICE CRADLING MY EAR
IS WARM AND PLAIN
WHISPER BENDS TO SPEECH
NOW WELL WITH…IN MY REACH
I RECOGNIZE IT’S ME
AND HEAR IT SAY
HELP ME THROUGH
I’LL HELP YOU TOO
WE WILL NOT BE ALONE
HELP ME THROUGH
IT’S WHAT WE DO
WHEN WE’RE THIS
CLOSE TO HOME
ECHOES OF THESE FIGHTS
CONCEIVED IN BLACK AND WHITE
SPIN COLORS NOW AS BRIGHT
AS ALL I’VE SEEN
FOR ONCE….. I FACED THE SHAME
OF THE MOMENT I BECAME
THE FIGMENT OF THAT I CLAIMED
I’D DEFEAT
THESE GODS, FACADES, VENEERS
SLIP AND DISAPPEAR
LIKE FADED PENCIL SMEARS
ON SCRAPS I OWN
DON’T KNOW FROM WHERE THIS CAME
BUT I WON’T PUSH BACK AGAIN
THE HAZE BEGINS TO WANE
THIS CLOSE TO HOME
HELP ME THROUGH
I’LL HELP YOU TOO
WE WILL NOT BE ALONE
HELP ME THROUGH
IT’S WHAT WE DO
WHEN WE’RE THIS
CLOSE TO HOME
as we have not met face to face, says Hell yes to the stopping of negative internal dialogue! Keep it up it up, my friend, as I think you are a pretty cool dude and I for one love the discussions on all things music and Elm Treason! That is very powerful, Bill! It seems to me that you have very internal insight and that is a good thing as I believe that we are all a work in progress, no matter what age or place we are in our lives Good for you for being self aware, open and sharing and the therapist/and your’friend’ albeit strangers
Wow! Thanks so much, Shelley. I was coming back to read two emails because of the “Look at me” quality to them. Another personality issue I have. lol. Show off. I was hoping they wouldn’t come off as dramatic. Thanks very much for your comment. I feel much better about posting these two personal diatribes.
Bobby and I are INCREDIBLY moved that this song means that much to you.
I mean that most sincerely, most deeply.
It’s really a song that, we feel, can connect with anyone. It offers no definitive answers. It’s not supposed to. It’s simply saying: You can listen to your own inner voice once in a while and give yourself a shot. Give yourself a break. Have confidence that you MAY know yourself better than you think. The answer may not come from dealers of light or those who reflexively offer – and expect – compliance. Let that voice in you cut through the din. Listen. Evaluate.
You may decide… nope, I’m wrong.
You may decide… I think my answer may be right.
You may decide… I have no earthly idea. I could be wrong, I could be right. Who knows? But why am I so quick to dismiss my instincts? Isn’t okay to try and find my way home? Maybe getting close to home is okay…
I won’t instinctively push back on myself… it’s okay to ditch whatever false idols we’ve constructed. Maybe we are our own false idols…but how can we know unless we allow ourselves to get closer to our own hearts and minds… closer to home?
What an honor, brother. A HUGE HONOR!
Thank you.
Still Learning to Fly by Rodney Crowell
Wonderful lyrics especially.
Just played it twice, Ellen.
Thank you so much!
The Who’s Won’t Get Fooled Again
Simply one of the greatest songs ever recorded… in my (Andy’s) most humble opinion!
Simply one of the greatest songs ever recorded… in my (Andy’s) most humble opinion!
Finally one that is easy for me…The Joker by Steve Miller! This song was a favourite to roller skate to when I was 10 years old; it has come on the radio during a stressful cab ride in Barcelona trying to get to the train station running late and traffic due to the Spanish Grand Prix, a nail biter for sure and then all of a sudden the cabbie’s radio plays ,The Joker and my heartbeat automatically went down and I could breathe! My friends will all tell you that even in the middle of a party or conversation if The Joker comes on…I will phsically stay put but my mind has left the room and I am in m own little world! I have not been able to figure out why but I don’t question the hold this song has on me…I just own it!!
P.S Andy, I do not know if you saw my review of Stevie/Billy show on the ‘Q’ but I added a little bit about how well do you know Andy Roman as I referenced 2 songs by Billy that have had a place in your heart and life!
Hi Shelley!
Yes, “THE JOKER” has always been a feel good jam for me.
I recall that the real cool older kids played that song quite a bit. It was freely associated with the “cool crowd.” I was a little kid, but I wanted – nay, NEEDED – to be that cool. That song was the gateway!
Of course, I never achieved that status, but I damn well loved the song!
I am SO SO SORRY, I have not read your review of the show. I cannot believe I missed it. What the hell is wrong with me? I need to find it.
And yes, I freely admit that I think Billy is one of the greatest songwriters ever. He influenced me tremendously. I scream it from the mountain tops!
RUSH – Freewill
EVERYTHING about that song SCREAMS positive vibes. Man, it’s one of the all-time great FEEL GOOD jams… and dammit, it rocks hard!
Over the hills and far away – Led Zep
That tune is LITERALLY one of my (Andy’s) all-time favorites to play!
GREAT ONE!
In 1965 the album, “Take a Ride” by Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels caught my attention. Between Mike Bloomfield and James McCarty style I was blown away! Listening to what McCarty did on, “Rock and Roll” to this day amazes me. Ahead of his time! Love that tune! PS…Your Acoustic and Rhyme albums are awesome!
Hi Ed!
Mitch Ryder has a VERY DEFINITE upbeat vibe. And Mike Bloomfield was just sensational. His work on Dylan’s “Highway 61..” is great (especially TOMBSTONE BLUES)…
And thanks SO VERY MUCH for the marvelous feedback on our albums. Man, that is so good to hear. We are so very pleased you are letting our tunes become a small part of your day. It mean a lot!
Meatloafs Bat Out Of Hell, and Paradise By The Dashboard Lights! I just get so deep into the songs that nothing else exists!
DEFINITELY some feel-good grooves right there.
As a kid, I (Andy) was particularly enamored with “Paradise…” I grew up in New York, so it was cool to hear Phil Rizzuto doing the baseball play-by-play in the song. He was a broadcaster for the Yankees back then.
I’m not a Yankees fan, but everyone knew Phil’s voice.
Oh so many feel good jams! One I heard the other day…
Built this City – Starship.
Ballroom Blitz by Sweet always cheers me up.
That intro alone is worth the wide smile.
“Ready Steve?”
Fortunate son CCR
Nice!
I am sailing by Rod Stewart. I don’t know why, just does. When all else fails and I can’t sleep, it helps me sleep as well.
Very cool, Daryl. Appreciate that much.
