With summertime in full swing here in the Northern Hemisphere, music is everywhere.

We love that.

Indeed, for so many of us, music is inexorably tied to summertime.

If someone were to ask you to “Name a song that says ‘SUMMERTIME’ to you?”

Your answer would be:

elm treason song of the week

“I GOTTA WRITE THIS DOWN” from the album “ACOUSTIC TREASON”

Because we are sharing the stripped-down, two-man version “I GOTTA WRITE THIS DOWN” from this week’s “TAKE ME BACK TUESDAY” in this issue, we thought we share the original studio recording from our second album.

Scrumptiously layered guitars (including some tasty harmonized riffing), Hammond organ, vintage-style background singing and (of course) 60s style hand-clapping make this song one the band’s most requested and streamed.

Compare Bobby’s organ solo on the studio version to the guitar version in the “TAKE ME BACK TUESDAY” video.

Enjoy, TREASONITES!

Here are ten songs that immediately come to mind to the boys in the band when we think of “summertime.” Obviously, there are LOTS more, so please feel free to offer your own suggestions in the COMMENTS section.

Beatles – Here Comes the Sun

Don Henley – The Boys of Summer

Seals and Crofts – Summer Breeze

THIS WEEK’S “TAKE ME BACK TUESDAY” VIDEO

This week, on our main Facebook page, we posted this never-before-shared version of our song “I GOTTA WRITE THIS DOWN.” We used some awesome “demix” technology to enhance the vocals, and now we can bring this jam to you (From 2016).

THIS WEEK IN HISTORY

Pantera drummer and co-founder Vinnie Paul dies at 54.

After a trial in which the three living members of Led Zeppelin testified, a jury rules that they are not guilty of plagiarizing the intro of “Stairway To Heaven” from the 1968 song “Taurus” by the band Spirit. In 2018, the case is sent back to trial on a technicality, but is upheld in a 2020 ruling.

50-year-old Michael Jackson is found dead in the Los Angeles mansion he is renting.

A cataclysmic moment in the history of music that no one who was alive when it happened will (or can) ever forget: The Spice Girls announce that they’re getting back together, with the five original Spices reuniting. A moment to remember.

Billy Joel graduates! He finally gets his high school diploma from Hicksville High School in Long Island, New York. He didn’t graduate with his class in 1967 because of a missed English credit.

The group Smile change their name to Queen and perform for the first time under that moniker.

After a long battle with drug and alcohol abuse, Judy Garland dies of an overdose at age 47.

The Kinks play a show in Springfield, Illinois, that they later learn was organized by John Wayne Gacy, who would become a notorious serial killer.

The Columbia label announces its new technological breakthrough, a “long-playing” vinyl phonograph record that can hold up to 23 minutes of music on a side.
