We love that.
Indeed, for so many of us, music is inexorably tied to summertime.
If someone were to ask you to “Name a song that says ‘SUMMERTIME’ to you?”
Your answer would be:

elm treason song of the week
“I GOTTA WRITE THIS DOWN” from the album “ACOUSTIC TREASON”
Because we are sharing the stripped-down, two-man version “I GOTTA WRITE THIS DOWN” from this week’s “TAKE ME BACK TUESDAY” in this issue, we thought we share the original studio recording from our second album.
Scrumptiously layered guitars (including some tasty harmonized riffing), Hammond organ, vintage-style background singing and (of course) 60s style hand-clapping make this song one the band’s most requested and streamed.
Compare Bobby’s organ solo on the studio version to the guitar version in the “TAKE ME BACK TUESDAY” video.
Enjoy, TREASONITES!

Janis Joplin’s. Summertime
A song that has been covered so many times by so many different artists… Timeless. A literal classic.
We love Janis’ version.
Heart of the sunrise
Yes!!!
(figuratively and literally)
Seasons in the Sun! Covered by Terry Jacks
I (Andy) was a little boy when this was on the radio. I do have memories of it coming through my mom’s little stereo system in the living room… As well as the radio on top of the refrigerator in the kitchen.
Strange how some songs are inexorably attached to specifically random memories.
Summer in the City by the Lovin Spoonful.
Love that keyboard part in the song.
“Summertime” by Mr. Quincy Jones!
Excellent, Andy.
Thanks for dropping a comment in!
Heat wave!
Hey Tom!
Which version of the song particularly connects with you here?
“Summer In The City” The Lovin Spoonful
The back of our necks are, indeed, getting dirty and gritty…
Saturday in the park-Chicago…
Eh Cumpari, ci vo sunari. Can you dig it?
I’ve got 3 songs at the top of my list…1) Sunny Afternoon (The Kinks), All Summer Long (Kid Rock), and Girls In Their Summer Clothes (Bruce Springsteen)
Of the three, I (Andy) simply adore the kinks song “sunny afternoon.“
To this day, one of my favorites to sing and to play
Hot in the City – Billy Idol
Firefly – Elm Treason
Wow.
You definitely threw me (Andy) for a loop on that one.
But in a very good way.
Never really thought about it… But yes, fireflies are forever connected to summer night… At least for us.
Thank you, Michael.
When lived in Brooklyn it was Summer in the City – Loving Spoonful. Lately it’s been Blue Cheer – Summertime Blues
Strangely, I (Andy) have always connected this song “Summer in the city” with New York.
Not sure why.
The song certainly can apply to people with dirty and gritty necks in Chicago or St. Louis… Or even Boise… Although I don’t think the sidewalks are nearly as crowded in mid- Idaho as they are in Midtown Manhattan.
Obviously, for me, being a Brooklyn boy, New York City would be the first metropolitan area to come to mind.
Thanks, Frank
2 way tie with these two. Each of these I`ve been listening to for over 50 years and each signals that It is summertime:
In The Summertime/Mungo Jerry

Schools Out/Alice Cooper Group
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXFsWAkLoXQ
Summertime cannot be summertime without Mungo Jerry!
Let’s be honest…
The Young Rascals, Grooven,.Shows how old I am,.brings back some good summer time feelings.
Not old.
Experienced.
Cultivated.
Accomplished
Well-versed.
Learned.
Rich with memory.
Hot Fun in the Summertime and Under the Boardwalk
On a blanket with my baby is where I will be…
Outstanding.
Meatloaf, the entire Bat out of Hell album…It was the first stadium rock concert that I went to with friends and it played constantly at the beach and out of every car stereo, windows rolled down and people cruising up and down Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls Ah, to be 15 againLOL
Lakeside Park by Rush also also means that summer is soon to come as it celebrates May 24
I (Andy) remember all the big kids listening to that album when I was small.
The cool kids would be singing Paradise by the dashboard light…
We were trying to mimic them.
Thats a hard one because where I live and was born only has two seasons the wet and dry season, but I do love to bop along to Katrina and the Waves singing Walking on Sunshine and Summertime Blues by the late great Eddie Cochran
So underrated, Eddie Cochran was.
Almost forgotten…
Great voice. Terrific guitar player. Tragically young when he died.
Come on everybody… Twenty flight rock… a Rock ‘n’ roll Pioneer.
anything with a jimmy buffet beachy vibe
Indeed, my (Andy’s) wife would wholeheartedly agree. How can summertime even exist without Jimmy Buffett, she would ask.
Dancing Days by Led Zeppelin
Schools Out by Alice Cooper
Love them both, Siobhan!
Excellent summertime double shot.
California Girls – Van Halen or Beach Boys. Kokomo – Beach Boys
Feeling the UV rays hitting me (Andy) just reading those song titles.
Thanks, Mike.
So very many songs! Summertime Blues by Alan Jackson, Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, In The Summertime by Mungo Jerry (all time fave, cuz it always cheers me up!), even Gershwin and Louis Armstrong! And I love Ella’s Fitzgerald’s version of Summertime! (These are just a few off the top of my head, and i know I’m missing so many… )
Beach Boys, Catch a Wave
