Day 7
NIGHT NIGHT
Thanks for checking out today’s act of treason! It’s Lucky Number Day Seven!
Those moments between the end of the day and our transition into slumber are negotiated in different ways: counting sheep… reading ’til sleep… sipping hot milk… swallowing a pill…
Whatever your way to surrender the day, that’s okay.
On this matter, we’ve nothing to say.
Some of most universally known pieces of music – besides “happy birthday” – are bedtime melodies like “Rock-a-bye-baby,” “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star...” so on.
Sometimes a voice – even one of treason – can be something like a whisper.
THE MUSIC (SONG 7) – “FIREFLY”
“Shine tonight, above my head, around my bed..“
Written by Andrew Roman and Robert Steel
Produced by Elm Treason
Recorded, Mixed and Mastered at Realm Tones Music
Today’s voice invites you to dream… with childlike scenes, soft and serene… Where the lulling is cool, the feeling is warm… Cradled and stable and sheltered ’til dawn… Here’s the story of an Elm Treason lullaby:
“FIREFLY”
(Listen now. Dream onward!)
LYRICS
Firefly, firefly in the night with the yellow, with the yellow, with the yellow light.
How I’d like to watch you shine tonight. Shine tonight.
Firefly, firefly in the night with the yellow, with the yellow, with the yellow light.
How I’d like to watch you shine tonight. Shine tonight.
Shine tonight, over my head, around my bed.
Shine tonight, over my head, around my bed.
Where you are, blinking star. Where you are, don’t go far.
Firefly, firefly in the night with the yellow, with the yellow, with the yellow light.
How I’d like to watch you shine tonight. Shine tonight.
Shine tonight, over my head, around my bed.
Shine tonight, over my head, around my bed.
Where you are, blinking star. There you are, don’t go far.
Firefly, firefly in the night with the yellow, with the yellow, with the yellow light.
Shine on tonight.
Bobby explains how and why the instrumentation and arrangement matters on this song.
Andy talks about mixing for that lullabye effect.

Wow wee that was just so Beautiful…. loved that different sound fellas…lullaby album next maybe
Aww, thank you, Ellen. This one was so heartfelt, so personal, so REAL – and such a change of pace – that we felt we had to include it… and while we didn’t expect it to be, as we said in the interview segment, it was the song that received the HIGHEST rating! You just never know what will resonate with people…. but this one is such a beautiful little tune, we knew we had to include it.
Absolute Gem !!……I’ve listened to this dozens of times and gets better each time.
I love it so much it brings tears of joy to my eyes !!
It brings me instantly back to my childhood…
Bravo…bravo….bravo..!!
Hi Vincent. It’s funny… I (Andy) don’t think we envisioned this song getting the positive run it has gotten in the early going. We knew it was very emotional and delicate..It was written from the purest of inspirations…but it does seem to touch people on a deeper level than we anticipated. It does transport some to a simpler time, the warm embrace of childhood.
Beautiful. Just beautiful. The pizzicato violins and orchestrations just kill me….
Well Done!
You cannot know how much your comment means to us, Craig. Wow. As a music maker yourself, you understand subtlety, nuance, texture…. So wonderful of you to say this. Wow.
Such a simple idea, easy lyrics and yet so much thought goes into the creative process. I love the musical visuals throughout the song and the love and care used to put it all together. We )your fans) may never realize fully how much you two put into the song writing and producing process, but we Love it! Good work, gents!
Andy here! Paul, yours is a magical, touching, meaningful comment. On so many levels. We appreciate how much you have been not only riding through this album with us, but that you are exploring the creative process with us as well. We add these extra videos NOT to appease our starving egos, but rather to CONNECT with you. We think it is effective in cementing the pathways between us all. It may sound corny, but it is very real…. and this song, in its simplicity, in its purest state, with its genuine intentions, is something, I think, we can ALL relate to on some level.
“…thingies…as we call them.” HAHAHA!
My first tattoo is Sandman, Neil Gaiman’s Morpheus, and the whole realm of sleep and dream holds a mystical element. Simple and straightforward, it seems, but the extra element of your explanations really adds to it. If you can compare a song to a meal, this is the place you get the whole show as the cooks do it right in front of you. Thanks for including us listeners and fans, it’s a very inclusive feeling that is much needed.
You definitely understand our purpose in creating this journey. It’s clear that you GET IT! This whole exercise is about wanting to include people on this special excursion. There is more meaning in it when one goes below the surface to share the human elements behind the finished products. We like to think so anyway… Most important to us is that you are connecting with the music on a deeper level. 🙂 And on this song, we thought folks would dig hearing how a song that sounds so simple could actually be far more intricate than all that. THANK YOU, Chuck.
