Day 2
CONFLICT AND CONCURRENCE
Welcome to Day Two – our second voice of treason! Thanks for stopping in.
We don’t walk around advertising ourselves as an “acoustic band.” Never.
Why? Because the word “acoustic” lives in the brain’s of the general public as a very specific sound and vibe: Folk. Singer-Songwriter. Soft Rock.
Believe us, we aren’t “anti” any of those genres. Far from it. It’s just that we’re bound to create a “disconnect” with people who read that word, hear our music, and are disappointed because we are rocking it. We prefer people “discover” our “acoustic” soul on their own.
Today, we show how “unplugged” and “heavy” are not contradictions. Yet, the words most definitely can be.
METAL IN THEM THAR HILLS?
One of the ELM TREASON modes of operation is to bring that “electric guitar” attitude to the realm of the “unplugged.” Bang it. Ram it. Jam it. It’s all good. Broken guitar strings be damned, to rock is how we roll. Dig this:
THE MUSIC (SONG 2) – (HAVING IT) ALL WAYS”
“Out of sight is out of mind, yet distance warms the heart. Great minds think much alike. Yet fools are seldom apart.“
Written by Andrew Roman and Robert Steel
Produced by Elm Treason
Recorded, Mixed and Mastered at Realm Tones Music
Whether it is simultaneously having your cake and eating it too, or getting the best of both possible worlds, or simply wanting it all, the great karmic wheel of the universe often mocks and scoffs. “Yeah, right,” it laughs. So do we. We take some tasty conflicts, face ’em off against each other, and lay ’em on top of some “un-acoustic-like” acoustic grooves. See what we mean here:
“(HAVING IT) ALL WAYS”
(the official lyric video)
“(HAVING IT) ALL WAYS “
(Feel the vibe!)
LYRICS
If you want something right, go it alone, yet two heads better than one.
The worm’s in the mouth of the early bird, yet wait and good things come.
Look all around before you leap, yet hesitate, you’ve lost.
Many hands make the work so light, yet many cooks kill the broth.
Crossin’ your heart, hopin’ to die, meaningless when you’re livin’ a lie.
Crossin’ your heart, needle in eye, without the heart, don’t even try.
Hitch that wagon to that star, but don’t bite more than you chew.
The wheel with the noise gets all the grease, but silence is golden, too.
Out of sight is out of mind, yet distance warms the heart.
Great minds think much alike, yet fools are seldom apart.
Crossin’ your heart, hopin’ to die, meaningless when you’re livin’ a lie.
Crossin’ your heart, needle in eye, without the heart, don’t even try.
Meanwhile, I’ll figure it out, how the fool is killing the doubt
by wonder or letting it out?
Crossin’ your heart, hopin’ to die. Crossin’ your heart, wonder why, wonder why.
No having it all ways. No walking out free and clear. No having it all ways
No, no, no, no
No having it all ways. No walking out free and clear. No having it all ways
No, no, no, no
A curious cat will wind up dead, yet seek and ye shall find.
The higher you climb, the harder you fall, yet the limit is the sky.
Laugh and the world will laugh with you, yet misery loves a herd.
The pen has might beyond the sword, yet actions are louder than words.
No having it all ways.
No, no, no, no
Don’t beat a horse already dead, yet try and try again.
To thine own self be true, but yet in Rome, do like them.
What’s good for the goose is good for all, yet one’s meat is poison to some.
Some may connect with this little song while others are glad that its done.

Wow day two what a hoot…ending of the song just gave me such a chuckle..
LOL! Yeah, we didn’t mention the lyric ending to anyone.. We wanted them to discover it on their own. Glad you’re enjoying the trip so far. 🙂 Rock on, Ellen!
Well done Elm Treason – number two is setting a bar for the rest I must say.
Many many thanks, Kerry! We so appreciate that. We thought this one would be good for a lyric video since the words are to integral to the song. Rock onward, man!
more more !!! lovin it
Hi Bill!
So, it looks like DAY 2 was cool with you as well. 🙂 OUTSTANDING, man. Thank you.
Love it!!!and the phoney grins!!!❤❤
Hey Steve! How you be? Sensational of you to comment here. You make a couple of guitar-bangers very happy. So glad you dig Song Number 2! Rock on!
This is one of those songs where you just sit back and say to yourself “did we really just do that?” I guess we did. Pure magic. Poetry & Metal. We can pat ourselves on the back for about five seconds……and then get back to work! Hope everyone enjoys this one as much as we do. Enjoy the backstory; we did them just for you.
E PLURIBUS ULMUS
Loved it. This album is going to be incredible.
Hi Jared!
Talk about ENCOURAGING! Thank you, brother. Glad you’ve dug the first two days. Man, you can’t know how much we LOVE hearing that. Appreciate you taking the time out of your busy day, brother. Sincerely.
Wow! just Wow! That riff needs a stack of Marshalls! Andy, the lyrics are genius as well! I always like the small touches you guys put in a track. The keyboard line, and i swear I heard a triangle in there somewhere or my tinnitus is acting up! Also, the harmonies on the chorus is some of the best I’ve heard you guys do. Great Track!!
Hi Craig! How goes everything??? POWERFUL vibes coming from you, brother. Man, if we only had a few dozen more like you, we’d be set. LOL… Your tinnitus may be in full working order, but not THIS TIME… that IS a triangle. No aural deceptions. LMFAO! We always think in terms of little flavors and textures when we’re putting together a track. We are tremendously grateful to you for the scintillating feedback.
Ok! Hold it! Wha…! Who? How?!!
That one left me speechless with a lot to say!! COOL is one word and the way it moves! Pretty dang original!
I love the sound of the recording!
Man!! You guys are blessed with talent.
Keep going!!
OMG! Mind Blown! Great Stuff! So, so, so looking forward to the full album! Great guitar licks and brilliant lyrics! Thank you thank you for this incredible musical journey!
Paul, you FLOOR US with the amazing feedback. I always think back to the time Bobby and I spent on these tracks, thinking… “Maybe we went too far with this?” or “Maybe we’re veering away from the ‘formula’ too much?” or “Maybe will not dig it so much?” … but those feelings were often fleeting, because once things got going. we’d SO GET INTO whet we were craeting that we just couldn’t wait to share it…. This was one of those songs that really had us feeling pretty proud when it was all said and done. We are humbled by your enthuiastic feedback! Thank you, Paul. I mean that.
Perfect! Love the solos and the lyrics. In fact the combination is kind of brilliant.
Hi Ruth! Ooooh, wow! SO LOVE that feedback, Ruth. GRATITUDE abounds….
I keep thinking back to the days, when putting this together, of sitting there with the legal pad, staring at two columns of contradicting adages, listening to the riffs Bobby wrote, over and over, trying to make this idea work. LOL.
It was well worth it, in retrospect… But there required a lot of craftsmanship. NOT COMPLAINING, mind you. Some songs are purely inspired, others require some LOUD LOVE.
I think this one speaks to the “wanna be” poet in me. I love all the contradictions and the way they seamlessly roll into and over each other. The element of funk is still present, with a more upbeat, storytelling vibe on this one. First, I was captured by the mismatched, well oiled machine that is simply put, the story. Second, I had to come back, put the music to it, layer it up, for the full effect. Something sounds so simple, yet, has the component of many, many, man hours, of strategic writing. Simply put, it’s brilliant. Hats off to you, on day 2, boys. Loudest of love. ✌❤????
You have, once again, set our musical souls aflame, Sonya. Such a wonderfully deep and thoughtful comment. It almost makes us feel legit (if you get what I mean). These are the kinds of reviews that all aspiring songwriters long to get – and not because it is positive (which sends us over the moon, of course), but because it is very clear that you’ve taken the time to give it a REAL listen. All I can say is “wow,” Sonya. THANK YOU most sincerely.
I will say that it is true…a lot of work went into getting the words just so. In retrospect, it’s easier to see that. At the time, while immersed in it, it just seemed like we were trying to grow something from scratch, looking for the right combination of water and sunlight. It didn’t seem like work. It seemed natural…. but looking back, it was a ton of time and effort.
But in a good way, of course.
Love the bit of snark in this one! ????
LOVE how you picked up on that, Nancy. We do pepper in the snark on this one. Rock onward!
Killer song! ????
Thanks, Susan! TRULY! We made this one into a lyric video for obvious reasons. The words are fun! You make our day. Thank you. Hope you’re njoying the trip so far.
I like 3 things. First. The contrasting overlapping proverbs. Remember, you can lead a horse to water… But sometimes it drowns! Second. The Carlos Bobby Santana solo and third, of course, the ending!
Hi Tim! Just LOVE your input, brother. THANK YOU. Yep…I (Andy) am with you on Bobby’s solo. Mine is the first. Not bad. Competent. Bobby’s – the second one – just RIPS. The words on this one were a bit a chore to craft – and I don’t mean that in a bad way at all. It’s that damn syllable count and that NEED to rhyme… So, how do we twist them to make it fit and still retain the familiarity of the saying? Thank you so much for your positive assurances.
Just incredible……you guys are magical !!
Wow. Stupendous words, brother. THANK YOU so much for saying that. You got us floatin, man. VERY excited that you liked this one. Truly hope you’ve enjoyed the first two days of our little excursion. 🙂
Man, you can’t know how GREAT it is to see that you’re enjoying the journey so far! That’s a big WOO HOO on our end. Seriously, it’s like Christmas. I mean that. THANK YOU, man! More on the way!
Love day two song
Hi Shirley! SO VERY GLAD you do. Thanks for giving it a spin! Rock onward!
Wow I’m almost speechless that was fantastic and it does hit home ???????????? I have to live with a small town musician my husband for 30 years it’s not a easy life the job done one hell of a job congratulations my grandson is 10 he looks up to y’all he watches the videos with me he’s the one that got the drums so thank you for inspiring him to job well done
So VERY GOOD to hear from you. We love that you get a good feeling from (Having it) All Ways….. Wow. Just wow. You honor us with every word, Odessa. I mean that. Thank you.
So many elements to this. Melodically and riff-wise I can hear an incredible blend of the Guess Who, Stone Temple Pilots, Metallica, and even some Rasputin feel. Wonderful!! Love it!
Love your assessment, Joshua. Your smorgas bord of musical influences is fascinating. We wouldn’t argue at all. It’s funny… many times people will comment on how our music sounds a certain way to them, or they hear a specific influence… and we won’t hear it UNTIL they mention. Once they do, you can’t unhear it. It’s a treasure and an honor. Thank you, brother.
Absolutely brilliant. I very much loved all the sayings put like you did.
Fantastic of you to say so, Karen! Thank you for wonderful words. You have no idea how much it means to us to have you dig the song. Play LOUD! 🙂
I love the way you did the video. Colors are great. The song is awesome. Not what I was expecting wording but is really cool. Dig it man. It is way cool. Thank you for sending it. Wow! totally rad.
HUGE gratitude to you, Alice! Mad LOVE for the wonderful feedback. I can’t even begin to thank you enough, on behalf of Bobby and myself, for taking part in this journey. 🙂 Thank you MOST sincerely. Looking forward to your feedback on the rest of the songs!
Dudes the (hook) chorus riff very chilled such an inviting song.
Donovan beatnik smooth
love it gentlemen great gift thank you
Hi Yerby! MARVELOUS of you to give this song a ride! There is a “chill” to it, no doubt…and yet, it has a kind of heaviness to it as well… That’s the BEAUTY, we’ve found, of doing heavy riffs on an acoustic guitar – it creates a vibe that is somewhat unique. THANK YOU for your KILLER assessment. Love how you put it: “Donovan beatnik smooth.” THANK YOU, brother.
Rocking on.
Brother.
Hey Paul! How you be?? THANKS for continuing on the album journey, man. TRULY hope you’ve been digging it! 🙂
Just down right groovy fellas!
Hey James! GREAT to hear from you. Appreciate the excellent feedback on this track. It does have a kind of “heavy” grooviness to it, we think… yes stil accessible. Can’t thank you enough for taking this one for a spin. Eight more stops to go, brother!
Great timing! Y’all are kickass! Peace y’all
Hi Rancine! SO GREAT to hear from you on this one. We knew this would be the lyric video from the album. (We may do another one, who knows?) The riffs themselves may be metal in composition, but the vibe it presents on acoustic is a different kind of heavy. I (Andy) call it smokey, dark, yet still melodic. 🙂 Thank you for being here for this ride.
LOVED the lyric video. Cool!!
We thought that of all the songs on the album, this one might be best for a lyric video…for obvious reasons…. 🙂
Metaphorically Marvelous!
LOL! PERFECTLY described, brother. THANK YOU. As a songwriter yourself, it’s good to get that kind of feedback. One of our lyrical delights interwoven with some of the best guitar I (Andy) have ever heard acoustically. Thanks, brother.
Again love the vocals, very nice feel to this, it moves
Thank you, brother. This one definitely has a smooth, moving vibe to it. We had fun with the words, but we also had fun varying the singing styles, depending on the song’s section. APPRECIATE your feedback VERY much.
Bobby going in depth was a really nice watch!
Bobby is the man. 🙂 No question. That’s why the rest of us in the band sing about him ’round the campfire. Endlessly. Thank you, Simon. 🙂
Thank you Elm Treason!! I’m very grateful for this opportunity. You’re work ethic as well as talent continue to amaze me! Excellent experience with song two, as well as the interviews behind the scenes.!! You guys really paired up some contradicting “wives tales”, and in pure Elm Treason fashion wove it into an incredible song!! All set to text on the screen in a way that a music video used to hook you in when they actually played videos on MTV!!
I can’t wait for what’s in store next!!
Don, we so appreciate your positive words on what we do. This song is really a departure for us in many ways. It is, at its core, a very metal-like song – particularly the verse and bridge riffs. But it takes on a unique flavor and tone when played with a heavy hand acoustically. Bobby’s drumming does it for me (Andy) as well. Thanks a TON for taking this journey with us. Glad you’re digging it so far!
Amazing performance, Guys
Andrew, so GREAT to hear from you! Thank you MOST SINCERELY. This one is a tune we are really proud of…we stepped out of our comfort zone with it…which is always good. the minute you’re comfortable, forget it. You might as well put the instrument away and break out the AutoTune. Rock on man!
Great lyrics and concept for a song. Humans are kinda hypocrites and contradictions.
Brilliant guitar yet again! Love it.
Hi Jake! AWESOME to hear from you. (Please forgive me for not responding as quickly as I would have liked to). Yes, this song also shows that there is NOT a “one size fits all” solution to anything. Different situations call for different approaches… but yes, you are also right…It just shows that we humanoids are ALL OVER THE PLACE! LOL!
Wow! Psychedelic! Lyrics are beyond awesome. Harmony is dead on. I think someone said something on one of your post that you seem to show a little Zombie’s influence. I don’t know the Zombies that well but there’s a late sixties early seventies vibe there that’s irresistible.
Hi Bill! GREAT to hear from you, brother. Thanks for the absolutely KILLER feedback on this tune. It was such a blast putting it together. It took time to get all the syllables in as they should, but it eventually worked out, thank goodness. Bobby’s guitar lines are sensational – almost like metal riffs on an acoustic, which creates a unique timbre. We are grateful you are on this journey with us. 🙂
Love it, thank for all the insights and that’s for sharing!
Honestly, the pleasure truly is all ours. Thank you for allowing us to share all this with you. It’s a ton of fun for us. 🙂 Rock on, Shawn!
Your use of the old adages or sayings as lyrics and the way you work them in is pure genius, contrary to some of the pop music repetitiveness in lyrics today. This has the quality of the works by Bob Dylan or Simon and Garfunkel and has the sarcastic and cynical qualities of my favorite band of all time Steely Dan
Wow. This is as powerful a comment on this song as we’ve gotten – and a super compliment of the highest order. Dylan? Steely Dan? Holy crap, these are some of our biggest influences. Thank you for the wonderful feedback. This one was so much fun to put together, we must say. Hope you dug all the insights, too. THANK YOU, Andy.
Un friggin believable song.. Its gets you boppin as usual with your stuff, and the lyrics are insanely amazing. Each analogy has an opposite to it that is the same.(I don’t know if I’m explaining that correct, but its utter fkn brilliance) When I really like something, I hang on to every note or word and this song does JUST that for me. Faaark Me! I Bloody love it.
A HUGE slice of WOW for your incredible comment, Colin. I (Andy) am hoppin’ off the table doin’ these happy dances after reading your feedback. Bobby and I thank you, brother. So glad you dig this one.
Love day 2 song was awesome, the sit down with Bobby was so cool,Andy you sound great songs fantabulous
SO GREAT to hear, Chris. Bobby explaining the music is sensational to me (Andy) as well… and I’m IN the band! Really glad you liked this one. One of our more inspired lyrics, to be sure… but the guitars make the song – acoustic metal, in a way..but smoky and dark. Thank you, man!
just freakin wow !
Hi Bill! So sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
Thank you for the GREAT feedback on this one. So VERY VERY pleased you dig it.
What about this song caught your attention?
Interesting concept, great guitar work, very clean. Dont hear Bobbys electric yet, maybe of few more plays
Hi Michael! Appreciate the very positive comments. Thank you much. Truly.
Elm Treason is an acoustic band. That is the heart of our sound – playing our acoustics like electric guitars. The tone and timbre of our music is based on attacking the acoustic guitar as if it were electric. On this album, there are no electric guitars, save for the bass.
I hope that is not too disappointing to you.
This is what Elm Treason does. Check out this video from Bobby:
https://youtu.be/IxP0DGanr8k
Thank you so much, Michael.
Great track guys. A very trippy song. Reminded me of the late 60’s, early 70’s prog-rock English bands like Gong and Camel.
Hi Lindsay!
LOVE your references there. Not many people know those bands anymore. What a compliment! Thank you so much for the killer feedback!
So glad you liked this one.
