– Def Leppard will hit the road this coming week for the start of their tour with Journey. Guitarist Phil Collen says, “We changed the whole set. The stage show is drastically different.”
– Heart has postponed the remaining dates on their 2024 North American tour following concerns about Ann Wilson‘s ongoing health issues.
– Elvis Presley‘s iconic blue suede shoes have sold at auction for $152,000.
– America will release a new live album, “America – Live From the Hollywood Bowl 1975,” on September 6, featuring conducting by George Martin.
– Record producer Peter Collins died this past week at age 73. Among his credits are Rush’s “Power Windows,” Bon Jovi’s “These Days,” Queensryche’s “Operation: Mindcrime,” Alice Cooper’s “Hey Stoopid,” Gary Moore’s “After the War” and more than 50 other records.
– Paul McCartney has extended his world tour – after turning 82 last month. He will now play stadium shows on October 15 and 16 at Allianz Parque in Sao Paulo. He’s also appearing at Estadio da Ressacada on October 19 in Florianopolis, Brazil.

– Music Teacher Extraordinaire Bobby Steel put on his school’s final concert of the school year with two shows on Thursday, June 20th.

12 YEARS AGO
The Flaming Lips break the Guinness World Record for the most live shows performed in multiple cities within 24 hours. The feat is part of MTV’s O Music Awards which honors achievements in the digital music realm. Starting in Memphis, Tennessee, a day earlier, the band plays a series of eight mini-concerts (at a minimum of 15 minutes each in accordance with Guinness guidelines), which are livestreamed online. The feat ends at the House of Blues in New Orleans.
12 YEARS AGO
In Kiev, Queen launch their first tour with American Idol alumnus Adam Lambert on lead vocals. The band had previously toured with Paul Rodgers.
14 YEARS AGO
Jake Holmes finally gets around to suing Led Zeppelin for plagiarizing his 1967 song “Dazed And Confused.” Led Zeppelin released a very similar song with the same title on their 1969 debut album, but Holmes waited decades to take legal action. The case is eventually settled, with the writing credit on the song changed to “Jimmy Page, Inspired By Jake Holmes.”
15 YEARS AGO
Following Michael Jackson’s death the previous week, he becomes the first act to sell more than 1 million song downloads in a week.

During her performance at Glastonbury Festival, Amy Winehouse punches a fan she mistakenly believes had thrown a hat at her beehive.
17 YEARS AGO
Apple’s new device, the iPhone, is released, integrating music into a phone for the first time.
19 YEARS AGO
Pink Floyd perform “Comfortably Numb” at the Live 8 London concert, re-forming with band members Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright for the first time since 1981, when Waters left the band. It’s the last time the four play together, as Wright dies in 2008.
24 YEARS AGO
The casket holding Lynyrd Skynyrd lead singer Ronnie Van Zandt is stolen from its mausoleum in Jacksonville, Florida, but left after vandals are unable to open it. The ashes of Steve Gaines, the band’s guitarist who died in the same plane crash that killed Van Zandt, are spilled from his urn, which is also stolen.
34 YEARS AGO
Tesla records their album Five Man Acoustical Jam live at the Trocadero Theatre in Philadelphia. Their cover of “Signs” becomes a surprise hit and catalyzes an acoustic rock trend, with MTV’s Unplugged series delving into more rock acts soon after.
40 YEARS AGO
After a failed attempt shooting a studio video for “Dancing In The Dark,” Bruce Springsteen does it live at his concert in St. Paul, Minnesota. During Clarence Clemons’ sax solo, he brings a 19-year-old Courteney Cox on stage to dance with him.
45 YEARS AGO
The Sony Walkman debuts in Japan, making music portable.
47 YEARS AGO
Marvel Comics publishes a Kiss comic book with a vial of their blood mixed into the ink.
50 YEARS AGO
Neil Peart replaces John Rutsey as the drummer for Rush. Rutsey played on the band’s first album, but Peart plays on the next 18, joining Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson in one of the most venerable and productive partnerships in rock history.
53 YEARS AGO
Jim Morrison of The Doors is found dead in a bathtub at age 27. No autopsy is performed, and while drugs are suspected, the official cause is listed as “heart attack induced by respiratory problems.”
54 YEARS AGO
Casey Kasem debuts the radio show American Top 40, where he counts down the Billboard hits (the #1 song: “Mama Told Me (Not to Come)” by Three Dog Night). He hosts the show until 2004, when Ryan Seacrest takes over.
55 YEARS AGO
Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones is found dead in his swimming pool in England. The death is ruled accidental, although Jones, 27, has high levels of alcohol in his blood.

Oh there are so many that are cool! Frigid Pink, big song?; Elastica and right before I listened to Elm Treason for the first time on fb I saw an add for a band called Cinnamon Rain and I did not like their music but thought it was a very COOL name but still my winner is Toad the Wet Sprocket!
That is the second time that “toad the wet sprocket” has been named here on this thread…

Especially the way the band was introduced when it first came out… They were always introduced as “the cream.”
