THE ELM TREASON WEEKLY E-ZINE

JUNE 21, 2024

THIS WEEK: Queen raking in billions… Fleetwood Mac a thing of the past…AI vocals are here…more

MUSIC NOODLES

Queen has reportedly agreed to sell their recording, publishing and other rights to Sony Music for a record-smashing $1.27 billion. That’s BILLION with a “b.”

– The world’s biggest record label, Universal Music Group, announced plans to offer its artists AI models of their own voices. The corporation’s deal with digital startup firm SoundLabs will create software called MicDrop, designed to replicate an individual voice via machine learning techniques. The artist will retain full control of the model – it won’t be used in any way without permission, won’t be available to the public, and the voice owner will profit from its use.

Yngwie Malmsteen will embark on a North American tour to commemorate 40 years of his solo career. The trek begins on September 26 in Fort Myers, Florida, and is currently set to run through November 18 in New York City.

Stevie Nicks said that there’s “no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac together” following the 2022 death of Christine McVie. “Without Christine, no can do,” she said.

– The Black Keys have hired new management, just a few weeks after it was revealed they’d split with managers Irving Azoff and Steve Moir. They also cancelled their North American tour. The duo has signed a deal with Red Light Management. Among their list of clients: Don Felder, Drive-By Truckers, Dave Matthews Band, Primus, Stone Temple Pilots, as well as the estates of Tom Petty and Jerry Garcia.

Mark James, the songwriter known for penning such timeless tracks as “Suspicious Minds,” “Hooked on a Feeling” and “Always on My Mind”, died at the age of 83.

Jon Anderson (formerly of YES) has released the first single with a group of collaborators he found on YouTube. The song is called “Shine On” and the band is called Band of Geeks.

Your Answer Is…

Greetings Treasonites!

This week’s “Your Answer Is” will be fun.

We step outside of the strict confines of music to pose this little ditty:

We ask: “Name something that NO ONE said in the 70s or 80s – and maybe even the 90s?”

“IF I NEEDED SOMEONE” from the EP “FOR MERSEY’S SAKE”

We rarely do cover versions, let alone share them.

We prefer to do our own material.

However, once upon a time, Elm Treason put out a five-song Beatles cover EP called “FOR MERSEY’S SAKE.”

The most popular cut on the collection was the band’s cover of George Harrison’s great track “If I Needed Someone.”

Our tribute to a band that influenced us greatly.

THE FIRST CONCERT OF TEN ROCK STARS

Here are ten rock stars and the first concerts they ever attended…

Sting – Jimi Hendrix

David Byrne – Ravi Shankar

Boy George – David Bowie

Sheryl Crow – Peter Frampton

James Taylor – North Carolina Symphony Orchestra

Geoff Tate – Alice Cooper

David Cassidy – Beatles

Mike Reno – The Lovin’ Spoonful

Bono – The Clash

Taylor Hawkins – Queen

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

This week’s “deep dive” video: What exactly is the “ELM TREASON SOUND?” What does that even mean?

Our latest video

“Lock and Load” with the second single from our latest album “WITHOUT A TRIBE.”

THIS WEEK’S “TAKE ME BACK TUESDAY” VIDEO

On our main Facebook page, we posted this never-before-shared version of our song “MOOD.” We had never shared it before because the vocals were way too low. However, we used some awesome technology to enhance the vocals, and now we can bring it to you (From 2016).

THIS WEEK IN HISTORY

Eight years after signing a “cessation of touring agreement,” Mötley Crüe kick off a co-headlining tour with Def Leppard in Atlanta.

Jimmy Page takes the stand in a trial where he is accused of stealing part of the song “Taurus” for the intro to “Stairway To Heaven.” Led Zeppelin played on the same bills with the band Spirit, who performed “Taurus” in their sets, but Page says he never heard that song before writing “Stairway.” The jury rules in favor of Led Zeppelin.

An audience member hurls a lollipop on stage while David Bowie is performing in Oslo, Norway. The lollipop wedges itself in David Bowie’s left eye (which already has an enlarged and frozen pupil following a childhood fight). Bowie halts the concert to remove the lollipop. Luckily, he escapes serious injury.

Megadeth is kicked off their tour with Aerosmith after Dave Mustaine is heard in an interview saying that his band should be the headliners. Jackyl and 4 Non Blondes open the remaining dates on the US tour.

At Earls Court in London, Pink Floyd play the last of 31 performances of The Wall, a unique stage show where a giant wall is erected (and torn down) as the band plays the album in its entirety. It’s Roger Waters’ last concert with the band, which breaks up in 1983 and carries on without him a few years later.

The Rocky Horror Show musical debuts at London’s Royal Court Theatre. Two years later, it starts a brief Broadway run and is adapted into the cult classic film The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The organizers of the Woodstock music festival report that they have lost over $1.2 million on the event (money which they will later make up through movie and soundtrack rights).

The first Monterey International Pop festival begins at the County Fairgrounds in Monterey, California. It’s the first of many big Rock festivals, with The Who, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and The Animals among those performing. Many consider it the beginning of the “Summer of Love.”

Deeming its “butcher cover” in poor taste, Capitol Records recalls the new Beatles album, Yesterday and Today, which is scheduled for release the next day and has already been sent to stores.

ELM TREASON’S LATEST RECORD

Our latest record WITHOUT A TRIBE is getting some seriously awesome feedback from everywhere. We are STOKED! It is, we believe, our best work to date… and now it can be yours on CD, vinyl or digital formats. CLICK HERE to bring your copy home.
