Little red corvette
Nice, Anne!
I was wondering if anyone was going to pick that one.
VERY glad you did.
Rush – Red Barchetta
Sammy Hagar – I can’t drive 55
Beatles – Drive my car
Excellent choices!
Hey Vinnie!
Kickin’ trio of jams right there.
Beep beep, M’beep beep yeah!
“Red Corvette,” “One piece at a time,” “Fast Car,” and “Drive my car” ????
One piece at a time is one of the few songs my dad ever played for me because it was so cool. I love it.
One of Johnny’s best… in my humblest opinion.
Excellent foursome…but I like that Tracy Chapman inclusion. Well done.
Tom Waits – “Medley : Jack and Neal / California Here I Come”
Martin, VERY VERY nice. I’m so digging that. Goin’ a little deep there. Well played.
I’m In Love With My Car
I’m in love with my car
Got to feel for my automobile
Get a grip on my boy racer rollbar
Such a thrill when your radials squeal
One of the best, no question.
Under My Wheels
Good choice. Something told you were going there.
Great choice, actually.
Loved the article. Love Bobby’s writing style and storytelling and sense of humor. Funny how it seems to mesh with Andy’s article writing approach. Also love Andy’s original version. I’ve had question and I finally get to ask it. Something that fascinates me and sounds so cool. You have that instrumental chord progression as an intro and then, right before Andy sings, you surprise me with a totally different chord that , to me, changes the direction you started. I love it. Is it called something musically? Why do I love that so much? Wish I could explain that better. Hope that makes sense.
would that be the V chord? The dominant ? V-IV-I? Dominant-subdominant-tonic?
Not sure of the section you’re talking about. that’s my guess…. I-V-IV-I progression.
Hope that makes sense.
Not sure Bobby. There are two chords two seconds or so before the opening vocal
yes E, B then A I believe.
A major
E major
A major
E major
A major
E major
B major
A major “I’ve only come back to..”
E major “..cool my mind
The opening of Getting By, chord-wise, is pretty simple.
The first chord is A major… then it goes to E major… It repeats that pattern until that B chord (which immediately precedes my singing). In technical music terms, they’re simple I, IV, V chords in the Key of E Major (E, A, B). That three chord progression has always been the song’s intro (even though in the 1987 demo, I only share the first verse). That B major is a good chord there, after getting the ear used to the A and E back and forth. Nothing particularly brilliant. But it works. The B chord practically screams, “Resolve me. Take me somewhere!” (V chords do that). But instead of going back to the root E chord, there is a transition stop to A first. To me, THAT is what makes the verse particularly musical. The ear almost DEMANDS to hear the “E” after that B, but we go the A FIRST – as a kind of musical layover.
I am strumming through until the THIRD TIME I hit the E chord. Then I do three strum/stop…
Then I do a three strum/stop on the B chord.
Then start singing on the A chord.
Van Halen: Panama
I know you used it already but I gotta say Commander Cody: Hot Rod Lincoln
And
Tom Petty: Running Down a dream which is really just the experience of riding down the road and not, specifically a car so I’ll add one more about a specific car and that would be Rush: Red Barchetta
Sweet picks. I especially dig your two latter choices, Petty’s tune being my fave of the three.
Chasing Cars- Snow Patrol
Low Rider-WAR
Highway Star-Deep Purple
and here’s one from my childhood: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Mercury Blues, by Steve Miller Band, In love with my car by Queen. Cars, by Gary Numan.
Nice deep cut by Steve Miller there, Chris.
i dig the others, too.
I love the U.S.S.Zydecoldsmobile by Sonny Landreth…Hot Rod Heart by John Fogerty and my favorite would be Somethin’ Else by Eddie Cochran but not sure if a line about a car count so I will say one more Canary Yellow Car by Ray Bonneville…
You guys are so cool. I really dig your noodles, groovy and all. Most Excellent! You’re keeping me in stitches. Keep playing it loud, & even louder! Just know I will. Thanks guys!
Hi Alice. Every one of those songs occupies a spot on several of my playlists. Excellent.
We’re so pleased you are diggin’ these noodles! There’s plenty more where these came from.
You know that’s what Vince Neal actually looks like these days only fatter as well, f’n barforama.

I (Andy) literally had to break out Mustang Sally after reading your comment. Now THAT is some kind of groove, ain’t it?
Oh, can’t leave without saying ” Hot on the Wheels of Love” thank you April Wine!!
VERY GLAD someone picked that one, David.
KILLER.
Big Yellow Taxi; Joni Mitchell or Counting Crows cover
Mercedes Benz; Janis Joplin

Happy Birthday Andy!!! May your day be filled with El Caminos and blue duckies – or not…
It really isn’t a birthday without them blue duckies or El Caminos, is it? At least not in our house!
It was a great day, thanks!
Love your picks… especially the Nash Rambler! Speeding up as we go….
I’m in Love With My Car (Queen)
Perfect, Leo!
I (Andy) was thinking the same thing. 🙂
“Shiny Shiny” the Rainmakers
“Wicked and Weird” Buck 65
“Rapid Roy the Stockcar Boy” Jim Croce
Nice selection, brother. I (Andy) had to check out the first two, not being familiar. Dig them much. Thanks, Chuck!
