THE ELM TREASON NEWSLETTER NUMBER 67
JULY 29, 2022
ELM TREASON TIDBITS
– We received no submissions for our “WITHOUT A TRIBE” album cover contest (sadly). We’re working on some ideas now.
– The “UPTOWN Q” Facebook Group is now at 144 members! Slowly we grow…. slowly… Thank you to those who have joined!
– We’ve decided there will be 13 songs on “WITHOUT A TRIBE,” and much like we did with “THE VOICE OF TREASON,” we will offer bonus discs with exclusive material – BOTH on vinyl and CD! (Digital downloads, too).
– We are now anticipating a tentative release date of November 15th for “WITHOUT A TRIBE.” Looking at all the manufacturing and production we have ahead of us – and scheduling things so we don’t burn ourselves out – this is a pretty firm estimate.
– We plan on making the release of this new album a grand event – similar to “THE VOICE OF TREASON” – with exclusive content, behind-the-scenes stuff, bonus tracks, etc… More details will follow in the coming months.

Peter Noone, Denny Laine, Mike Pinera, Dick Wagner, Larry McCray, Greg Shaw (of Bomp records and mailorder – we never met personally but did do a lot of tape trading in the 90’s, early 2000s
Marvelous roster of names there, Charles.
Am I correct in assuming that Peter Noone was an incredibly nice man? I mean, I’m sure they were all nice, and the circumstances will always dictate how people react and behave… but my family has experience in meeting Peter, and they have said that he was just the nicest kid. (He was still a teen when they met him).
Excellent input, brother. Thank you sincerely.
When I was 20, in 1980, I won a series Steve Martin impersonation contests. This led to little bit of work. I was booked at a prison as an opening act to BB King. I bombed big time but a lady named Dell Long, who booked King in prisons gave me Steve Martin’s manager (or agent, can’t remember) phone number. I called him and he asked me to impersonate Martin, which I did. Martin happened to be in the room with him. He got on the phone and said hey that’s pretty good. We talked for about thirty seconds I guess, and I can’t remember what either of us said because I was very surprised to say the least. He was very nice.
Now THAT is a sensational story! Wow. There are so many elements to this worth touching upon. So many little twists that could spark entire conversations all their own. Fascinating, man.
Needless to say, it is a GREAT recollection. I (Andy) so appreciate you sharing it here.
(If he had said it was a lousy impersonation, you had the PERFECT Steve Martin retort just waiting in your arsenal).
LOL! In all these years, that never occurred to me. It WOULD have been a perfect retort. It would have made a much better story, for sure.
HAHAHA! Right?
I met Exene and John Doe of the band X. John Doe was quiet. But Exene and I had a nice conversation. I told them about the first time I saw them and we talked about different cities in Texas. They were both very kind.
I (Andy) LOVE IT when celebrities you meet are down to Earth. Sounds like a GREAT experience, Lisa.
Bob Steel and
Andy Roman
????????????????????
HAHAHAHA!!!!!
(The cash will be in the usual place, Vinnie).
I know Debra Brando, she gave me her dog, Prince, a beautiful pit bull.
I saw Larry Norman play in Portland Oregon, talked to him for awhile, very nice guy. RIP
I met Krist of Nirvana a few times, even cut some carpet for his house, he’s a friend of my old boss. Even helped my boss move a bunch of his stuff from Krist airplane hanger they shared for awhile in Kelso. Nice quiet guy.
Hey Brian! ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! There is something immeasurably cool about having a dog once belonging to Debra Brando.
Of course, meeting Novoselic is beyond adjectives. Love it, man. Thanks for sharing that here.
When i was very young I went with my Gramma to a Pro Wrestling event at our local Mid-High. I met and got autographs of Rowdy Roddy Piper and Ricky Martel (who was French and I actually spoke with him in french!).
Also been to a music festival in Texas and got all the autographs I could! One nationally known artist, mostly locals. But all amazing!!
Ahhh, very cool. I haven’t been a wrestling fan for years, but when I (Andy) was (and once upon a time, I REALLY was), it was during the days of Rowdy Roddy Piper. Great fun, Nancy!
I love the mailbox picture!!! You guys are so COOL!!! Haven’t met anyone yet. If I did they were incognito. Be safe my music friends. May Peace be with you Always..
Thank you, Alice! Peace be with you as well. 🙂
Got autographed pictures, Len Dawson, Hank Stramm, Otis Taylor, couple others. KC Chiefs after winig super bowl #2 back in 1865, lol. Love the funnies, and yeah man, toe jam football !
That was the last year of the AFL before the merger. And the first of four Super Bowl losses by the Minnesota Vikings. Them Chiefs just kept “reticulating” down the field…
Had some really cool experiences! Spent an evening dancing and partying with George WEndt at an L7 show; had an amazing talk with Murray McGlaughlin, well known Canadian roots musicianwont take the time to story telll; had a mud fight with 9 inch nails at Woodstock/94 cool thing about this is that we did not know it was thme until we all headed to show and they all of al sudden ended up on stage; had 2 cool run in in /93 while training with first guide dog in San Rafail, California. My trainer knew that I was a huge music fanatic, so while training in smalltown he told me to turn towards the road and wave, the guy stopped his moped and came over and we were chatting and my trainer casually says Shelley say to Carlos Santana, we talked about dogs and life for aboout 10 minutes. Then while learning about using dog while going around outside cafes my trainer tells me to follow his directions as we are going to break all the rules he tells me to stop and say good morning Eric so I did and added enjoy your day…yes it was Eric Clapton hut I did not know until we were out of the madhouse…fun with the blindLOL but cool for me Of course shinging moment… meeting John Cleese, making him laugh and smile and then having him sneak up on the blind chick and whisper in my ear “Do you know who this is”? give me a peck on the cheek and keep going…WOW!!!! My only regret is that I did not have the quick wit to ay, ” Eric Idle is that you? I have also had the pleasure, sometimes to interview Billy Idol, UB40, Chalk Circle and the Northern Pikes for the university newspaper! I also am friends and have dated some ‘musicians’ from Toronto, so depending on you music types and being Canadian they may not resonate but they are well know in their own right and followers!
Wow you are having a life well lived Shelley Stewart… I say good on you, I am feeling a bit like the color of Kermit and I have not met anyone famous maybe there is time for me yet ..
Hi Shelley! I (Andy) literally read your comment three times. Man, I LOVE your life. Such treasured moments. Such exquisite memories. The mouth simply waters.
This is why we are so lucky to have you out there in our corner.
Thank you!
I met David Lee Roth, Ronnie James Dio and John Denver.
Very cool trio of music legends, Mark. Any of the three you enjoyed best?
John Denver.
Just months before his passing, we were in Carmel in Northern California, at a private cove at a friend of the family. As we were ascending up the steps, we noticed a couple of people talking photos of the scenic beauty.
So we stopped to say hello, and started chit chatting about the beautiful scenery, when I just realized we were conversing with John Denver!
So , as we were heading back to the house, I was asking my wife, “ hey wasn’t that……?” As she kept repeating, in a whisper, “ Shut up, shut up, keep walking.” ????????
GREAT GREAT story!
Thank you, Mark! VERY satisfying memory, to be sure.
“Shut up. Keep walking…” HAHAHA!
Mark Farner. He and his wife played a set with an area cover band at a local fund raiser about 5 or so years ago, then he mingled with the smallish crowd a little. My one brush with the famous.
And a killer one at that, if I (Andy) may say so. Thanks, Katie!
