GROOVY NOODLES
THE ELM TREASON NEWSLETTER NO. 49
MARCH 25, 2022
Quick Post-Wedding Update
Last weekend’s wedding of Andy’s daughter Gabrielle was magnificent. Stunning. No two ways about it. There will eventually be lots of pictures taken (where you can see their faces up close), but these are the two the bride is sharing before the official pics come back.
They are a great couple.
Thanks to everyone for their well wishes and participation in last week’s “wedding dance” question.
Band Stuff
Work on the new album continues. As mentioned in an earlier serving of “Noodles,” the working title of the album is “Going Yesterday.”
Meaning?
The way someone might say, “I’m goin’ medieval” or “I’m goin’ retro,” that’s how we mean it…
“We’ve kind of had it with all this craziness today. We’re goin’ yesterday….”
…not that everything about the past was better or worthy of escaping to. Clearly not… but sometimes (especially in recent times), you just wish you could go back to a time and place when things made more sense…. even if just for a few minutes.
That’s the general idea.
Also, we have plans in the works to put ALL of Elm Treason’s releases out on vinyl (including bonus discs). Exciting, yes?
And we want to make it clear to everyone…. when the new album is released (planned for Fall), we will make sure vinyl, CD and digital formats are equally available! (Cassettes anyone?)
Your Input – Best TV Theme/Song
This one’s easy… and fun.
What are some of your favorite TV show themes or songs specifically written for a show? (For instance, we would have chosen “Funeral March of a Marionette” for Alfred Hitchcock’s show, but it was composed 83 years before the show first aired).
A few of these are before our time, yes, but that fact alone shows you how ENDURING the music really is.
A few for you here…. “The Addams Family” (who can NOT sing along with that one?)… “The Jeffersons” … “Law and Order” (we’re suckers every time for that guitar string bend bit) … many others.

I always though the Munsters had a stone cold groove. I knew all the lyrics to HR Puf ‘n Stuff, Branded was a cool lyrical story. Andy Griffith theme is recognizable and an apt theme for that great show. Twilight Zone is an epic piece of music. Hill Street Blues and The Rockford Files are a couple of good representations of Mike Post composed music that eighties shows were saturated with. I just learned that Gilligan’s Island and other story telling themes were there so that Sherwood Swartz could make a few more bucks on the music.
Some GOLDEN selections there, brother.
The Munsters actually had two variations to their theme. The show was only on two years. I (Andy) dig both, but I dig the more “ghoulish” one with the horns at the beginning.
I remember H&R Puff N Stuff VERY VERY well. Watched it incessantly as a small one.
Twilight Zone may be on the best themes anywhere. It has its own definition now. LOL.
Mike Post was a huge influence in the sense that he good create and LAND a hook in your skull so easily. A master, indeed.
Those mid 60s themes still resonate too: Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres…. Beverly Hillbillies, too!
Thanks, Bill.
For me, The Sopranos, Woke Up This Morning / Alabama 3
Damn, I (Andy) adore that. What a groove…
And when we lived in Jersey for a time, that is LITERALLY the route we took home. No kidding!
Thanks, Martin!
Mary Tyler Moore
That song can turn the world on with its smile.
Classic. Great lyrics too – especially prefer the variation of Season 2 onward.
Cruel Angel’s Thesis for Neon Genesis Evangelion and Again by Yue for Fullmetal Alchemist are my two favorite theme songs!
Gwendolyn! Just outstanding! Gotta admit that I do air bongos when “neon Genesis” plays… very cool.
Love your picks. Big time!
So GOOD to hear from you on this.
So mine are both kids shows from the 90’s, but honestly my childhood shows had openings that did need to hit so hard, but they do. So I would say the theme of Doug and of rugrats… also pretty sure they both have no lyrics. But if u haven’t heard them before look them up… for kids shows they are both bangers.
YES!! DOUG!! BUT WHICH ONE??? Disney or Nickelodeon??? We watched with out kids, but we still occasionally start humming it!!!
I’m a 90s kid so my version of Doug was always the first Nickelodeon version.
Hey Kris! We LOVE 90s kids who participate. I (Andy) watched a TON of 90s TV because I was working in TV in those days. Did a ton of stuff when I was a pup in the business. LOL. I know Doug VERY well. Outstanding, brother.
I’m with Kris… Nickelodeon! 🙂
The theme from RUGRATS STILL echoes through my skull. Absolutely. Actually, the whole intro sequence does. And I (Andy) dig the Nickelodeon version of Doug’s theme.
The Firefly theme was pretty cool.
Hey, Jake! Awesome to have you stop in. 🙂
A shame that show only lasted one season.
And yes, I (Andy) DO dig that theme. GREAT choice. A little off the beaten path, but no less awesome.
Not really into that kind of music but the theme song to Hawaii Five-O was pretty cool
Remember to put me on the top of the list for the new package. Congrats to the new bride and groom.
Well, thank you for saying that, Dennis! It was a wonderful event… in every way.
So good of you to say so.
Rock on, brother!
Lol, “Batman”
When I (Andy) was a little boy, I watched Batman on repeats (Channel 11 in NYC) over and over and over…
Lord, I adored that show..
and the theme is just exquisite!
The Flintstones Cheers and have to admit that the hand clapping to the theme from friends was a family affair!
Mr. French!!! Loved Family Affair.
Flintstones theme is just time-transcendent. My KIDS know it. One of the all-time greats, Shelley!
And yes, CHEERS is just perfect. One of the great sing-a-long themes.
Two of my favorites growing up were Brady Bunch (Duh!!), and The Monkees. I remember Kid’s Incorporated, and the Looney Tunes Themes (ALL OF THEM).
Andy Griffith, Patty Duke , Dobie Gillis. Those were all catchy Tunes that I still sing randomly.
The kicker for me is Sanford and Son. My ex husband (who just passed in October), would just RANDOMLY start the “DO do do doot”…and then it was in my head and he would laugh when he would catch me singing/humming it. I would call or text him, and all I had to say was, “I hate you!” He would bust up laughing because he knew it was stuck in my head…
Like now. DAMMIT ANTHONY!!! I HATE YOU!!! LOL!!!
Hi Gloria! the music from all my childhood shows still resonate deeply… and LOUDLY with me. To this day, I still watch Looney Tunes. It breaks my heart that young kids today are growing up without Bugs Bunny and Road Runner on Saturday mornings. Even my Mom’s generation had THAT!
Love the music for Sanford and Son. BIG TIME. All those 70s shows had such great themes.
Happy Days
Munsters
Adams Family
The Incredible Hulk
Great memories……????
Hey Vinny! Just ADORE all those themes. I (Andy) watched the Addams Family and the Munsters on repeats all the time as a kid. They transcend time.
Thank you, man.
The memories are, indeed, GRAND!
So many great TV theme songs from yesteryear to choose from but here’s a few to consider: The Beverly Hillbillies, The Love Boat and Gilligan’s Island. Also, The Brady Bunch theme were ALWAYS great to sing along with. A couple instrumentals: Mission Impossible, Hawaii Five-O and Hogan’s Heroes. Pink Panther too! So many great tunes!
I simply love the newsletter. Look forward to it. Keep up the good work . . . .I love all the interesting info from the past and those beautiful wedding pictures (in the current one) of the present. Take care and play on.
Lisa, you are so kind.
we LOVE that you dig the newsletter.
the honor is all ours.
Theme sung by stars of the show. All In The Family.
For best theme by musicians. The Flintstones.
Hey Darcy!
I (Andy) absolutely LOVE the theme to ALL IN THE FAMILY – especially the first season when they sang it in front of a studio audience and the laughter was part of the intro.
And the Flintstones – ICONIC. “Let’s ride with the family down the street through the courtesy of Fred’s two feet.”
